Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) has cleared the last technical hurdle before switching Protocol V27 from its testing environment to the live mainnet, with the upgrade now running on Testnet 2 and showing stable performance at 250 transactions per block with no recorded failures.
Pi Network began rolling out its Protocol V27 upgrade on Testnet 2, using Pi Node Docker V27.1.0, as the network prepares for a planned mainnet deployment. The stabilization of the protocol at 250 transactions per block with no failures signals that the network can handle higher traffic loads, a key requirement before any production switch.
Protocol 27, designated the "final planned upgrade," began deploying on Testnet 1 on August 21 and targets September 15 for mainnet, bringing automated market maker liquidity pools, smart contract authentication, and RPC server infrastructure.
The upgrade follows Protocol 26, which forced all 421,000 node operators to update by August 11 or lose connectivity, clearing the path for the final planned protocol upgrade.
Protocol 27 gives accounts and applications more flexible, more secure ways to authorize transactions, meaning smart contracts on the network can now support more advanced permission rules.RPC server infrastructure improves how external applications interact with the Pi blockchain programmatically, a prerequisite for serious developer tooling.

With Testnet 2 now confirming stable block performance, the Pi Core Team's next move is flipping the switch to the live environment, a step the team has described as the conclusion of its current upgrade roadmap. The network upgrade also adds Protocol 28.0 to the future roadmap, confirming development continues beyond the current cycle.
