The August 11 deadline is a hard deadline, not a recommendation. Nodes that have not completed the upgrade by this date will be at risk of disconnection from the Mainnet until the upgrade is completed. For most operators, the process is straightforward. The upgrade includes internal data migrations with less than five minutes of expected downtime for most operators. The Core Team has also advised operators not to upgrade all nodes simultaneously.
Protocol 26 is the ninth protocol upgrade completed over the past few months.The previous v25 upgrade added BN254 cryptography and Poseidon hashing for zero-knowledge apps.Pi's blockchain upgrade strategy has been methodical and sequential throughout 2026, advancing step-by-step through a defined upgrade path rather than making large version jumps.
