Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) $PI has released Pi Desktop version 0.6.4, an update that makes remote access to SoloHost apps simpler and adds new checks on what those apps can reach on a user's computer.

Remote access without router changes

According to the Pi Network blog, the release removes the need for Pioneers to change their home router settings. Previously, setting up a remote connection required router changes and may not have worked on certain networks. Pi Desktop now establishes the connection itself, without users having to open ports on their home networks.

The change affects how Pioneers reach apps running on their own machines. SoloHost lets a Pioneer's computer act as its own server, so supported apps, such as local AI agents, can be used from the SoloHost app in Pi Browser on a phone. Pi Network has said the approach lets people use AI while keeping data on their own devices rather than on third-party remote servers.

Remote access remains optional. Pioneers who have already set it up can switch to the new connection by selecting "Reconnect" in the remote access interface, the blog says.

New checks on what apps can access

The update also adds safeguards. Pi Desktop now validates that each app can only access its own files and network. The check runs before installation and each time the app starts. The aim is to reduce the risk of an app reaching the rest of the user's computer, the Pi Node or another app's data.

Similar checks apply when developers publish apps, with the goal of keeping packages that break containment rules out of the SoloHost catalog. The release also includes minor interface improvements.

Context: Protocol 28 and PI price

The Desktop release came alongside a network milestone. TokenPost reported that Pi Network confirmed on Oct. 22 that its Mainnet completed the Protocol 28 upgrade on Oct. 16. The upgrade improves how delayed transaction data is handled and lets developers update groups of smart contracts together. TokenPost also noted that the Mainnet still appeared as "under upgrade" on the Oct. 16 target date, before completion was confirmed six days later.

On the market side, PI traded near $0.0786 on Oct. 23, with about $3.1 million in 24-hour volume, according to market coverage at the time. That coverage said the developer changes from Protocol 28 are clearer than their effect on apps, payments or demand.
