Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) $PI says stablecoins could expand ecosystem utility in areas where price stability matters. The project also stressed that launching a stablecoin will not by itself guarantee adoption, and that careful design matters more than adding another token.
"The introduction of stablecoins requires a deliberate, unique approach, and must be aligned with Pi Network's ecosystem and principles," Pi Network noted. The team said any stablecoin should fit well with Pi and not undermine the purpose of the cryptocurrency.
What Pi Network Has Said About Stablecoins
The position was set out in a blog post titled "Pi Network's Approach to Stablecoins," published on 8 October 2026, according to KuCoin News. The Core Team pointed users to the post the following day. It says its approach may differ from how stablecoins have been introduced elsewhere, and that simply adding one does not guarantee it will complement Pi.
The team said stablecoins could support use cases where predictable pricing is important, including commerce, payments, accounting and settlement, according to KuCoin News. Their role would be deliberately narrower than that of the native PI token, which is expected to remain the primary digital asset across network processes. Pi also said stablecoins could bring more economic activity inside its ecosystem rather than forcing users to rely on external infrastructure.
Implementation will be cautious. The team is working on principles to govern future integrations and is treating compliance as an important consideration.
OUSD Partnership and Open Questions
The comments follow a partnership with Open Standard, the company behind the Open USD (OUSD) stablecoin. Coin Edition reported that Pi said it will explore rewards programs for Pioneers and broader uses across its ecosystem. The outlet noted that Pi gave no launch date, reward terms or explanation of how OUSD would connect to the PI token, so the deal so far is a stated intention rather than a product.
KuCoin News also reported that the Core Team has not confirmed that OUSD is already integrated on Pi Mainnet, and that no rollout date has been given.
The update comes as PI trades near record lows. BigGo Finance reported the token at about $0.0804, roughly 97.3% below its all-time high of $2.99. Separately, Protocol 28 is scheduled to activate on Mainnet on 16 October, after node operators were required to upgrade by 13 October.
For now, the stablecoin plan is a framework rather than a product. Pi's emphasis on design, compliance and keeping PI central suggests any rollout will be gradual.
