Pi Network Sets Deadline For Critical Mainnet Upgrade

Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) has issued a mandatory deadline for all mainnet node operators to complete their upgrade to Protocol 25 by June 18, 2026. Nodes that fail to update in time risk being disconnected from the $PI network entirely.

The project also warned that the upgrade process may take longer than usual, giving operators reason to act sooner rather than later.

Part of a Broader Upgrade Roadmap

Pi Network successfully completed the Protocol v24 upgrade, which was described as one of the most challenging migrations to date. With seven of nine upgrade steps completed and just v25.2 and v26.0 remaining, Pi Network is in the final stretch of its most significant infrastructure transformation since the Mainnet launch.

This step is part of a structured, multi-stage upgrade roadmap designed to incrementally improve node stability, security, and network performance.Protocol v23, completed in May 2026, introduced full smart contract functionality, enabling decentralized applications and a native DEX.

Node operators must not start the 24.1 to 25.2 or 25.2 to 26.0 upgrades ahead of schedule, as both remain locked until officially activated by the Pi Core Team.A Protocol v26.0 deployment is planned for late June 2026, targeting a final consolidation of the technical foundation.

Stakes for Node Operators

All mainnet nodes are required to complete the upgrade before the stated deadline, with nodes that fail to update risking losing connection to the network. This requirement is standard practice in blockchain ecosystems, ensuring that all nodes operate on the same protocol version to maintain consistency, security, and efficient communication across the network.

Operators are also advised not to upgrade all nodes simultaneously, and to stagger upgrades across infrastructure while directing traffic away from nodes currently undergoing migration.

The Pi Network ecosystem currently counts 18 million KYC-verified users, over 70 million registered Pioneers worldwide, 421,000 active mainnet nodes, and more than 10 billion $PI migrated from testnet.
