Circle brings USDC to the front of Chelsea jerseys starting from the 2026/27 season. The main partnership, announced on August 28, outfits the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, with an official debut on Sunday against Brighton at Stamford Bridge. No stablecoin issuer had occupied this spot before in the history of the English championship.

- The USDC logo debuts Sunday, August 30, against Brighton, during Chelsea’s first home match in the Premier League.
- Chelsea had been without a main sponsor since the telecom operator Three’s contract ended after the 2022/23 season.
Chelsea Entrusts the Front of Its Jersey to USDC
The London club officially confirmed on Friday, August 28, a main partnership with Circle which installs the Circle and USDC logos on the front of the jerseys of the men’s, women’s, and academy teams starting from the 2026/27 season.

Sports already capture crypto’s attention: an analysis published in June explored whether the 2026 World Cup would become the largest crypto event in history.
Until now, crypto actors remained limited to the sleeves of the English championship. OKX outfits Manchester City in that spot, Kraken Tottenham. Circle becomes, according to press records, the first crypto financial services company to secure the main placement on a Premier League jersey.
Its co-founder and CEO Jeremy Allaire connects this choice to the product’s purpose:
” We built USDC on the belief that money should flow seamlessly for everyone, everywhere, like the Internet does. This partnership with Chelsea connects us to a global sports community built on that same borderless vision. “

The challenge goes beyond the logo. Circle exposes a regulated payment product to an audience mostly unfamiliar with crypto, while the club highlights a partner it describes as a builder. Its commercial director Kash Razzaghi envisions the reverse: the jersey makes USDC a familiar brand far beyond the industry’s participants.
After Three Years of Temporary Solutions, USDC Plants Its Flag
Chelsea had carried this gap since 2023. The contract with the telecom operator Three, valued at about 40 million pounds per year according to SportsPro, ended after the 2022/23 season, and four season starts followed without a main partner on the front of the jersey. A previous case had cooled the market: the FTX debacle shattered sponsorship contracts from the previous cycle.
The facade has seen much action. The sports data company Infinite Athlete featured on the jersey for the second half of the 2023/24 season in a deal reported by ESPN at 40 million pounds, the real estate promoter DAMAC appeared late in the 2024/25 season, and the industrial AI software IFS held the spotlight from February to the end of last fiscal year.
The wait came with a price: SportsPro reports a demand around 50 million pounds per season, other sources mention up to 65 million, and parties have confirmed nothing. The club limits itself to affirming, via the BBC, income in line with the expected market price. SportsPro specifies the agreement runs for one year, with an extension option.
Jason Gannon, chairman of Chelsea, embraces the direction:
This partnership with Circle positions Chelsea at the forefront of football’s digital evolution. We are two organizations obsessed with the future, relentlessly innovating to be best placed for the long term.
The removal of betting sites from the front of jerseys has made way for financial actors, now the most visible category in the championship. A sponsor listed on the NYSE, subject to quarterly accounts, reduces reputation risk without eliminating it.
Circle announced 73.3 billion dollars of USDC in circulation at the end of the second quarter, a 19% year-on-year increase, according to its quarterly results. The CRCL stock closed at $94.24 before the announcement.
The infrastructure follows the same path. The company is developing a global payments network dedicated to fund transfers and is preparing the public launch of Arc, its blockchain oriented towards financial uses, expected on September 16 with BlackRock, Visa, and Mastercard among the founding validators. According to the Bitcoin.com article, Circle also extended its historic partnership with Coinbase on existing terms, preserving its primary distribution channel.
The ambition of issuers goes even further. Indeed, Tether, issuer of competitor USDT, had made a firm cash offer at the end of 2025 on Exor’s shares in Juventus, rejected within a day. Industry estimates place crypto sponsorship spending in sports at about 565 million dollars for the 2024/25 season, up about 20% year-on-year. The British framework facilitates the operation: Circle has held an e-money license from the Financial Conduct Authority since 2016. This market reading is not financial advice.
The real effect remains to be measured. Sunday’s images will serve as the first visibility test, and the exercise or not of the extension option will decide commercial confidence. The movement is part of a larger shift: stablecoins are settling into daily card payments, and football now offers them its most exposed stage. The rest will be read in the USDC circulation curve.
