Insights by QTech Games
With emerging markets continuing to drive global gaming growth, Ekaterina Mayorova, Head of Region – Africa from QTech Games shared insights into content distribution, market expansion, technology and the opportunities shaping Africa’s gaming landscape.
Discussing what distinguishes a successful content distribution platform in today’s competitive iGaming landscape, Ekaterina said:
“Firstly, you need a strong Africa-first strategy, built around local market needs, with a deep understanding of player behaviour across different African regions. By working closely with suppliers from an early stage to help shape that content for diverse audiences, and fostering exclusive content opportunities for local operators, QTech always stays at the cutting edge.
That’s why we pair our aggregation platform with local-market intelligence and engagement tools such as tournaments and promotions, so operators can activate content, not merely host it.”
Reflecting on the opportunities emerging across West Africa, she highlighted:
“The opportunity is hard to overstate. For example, Nigeria alone offers a population of more than 230 million with a deep-rooted sports culture, rapidly improving digital infrastructure and a young, mobile-native audience, while Ghana’s online sector grew around 24% last year on the back of strong digital adoption and a progressive regulatory framework. Across the region, the growth engine is unmistakably via the mobile channel. An overwhelming majority of players will discover, deposit and play on smartphones, but also on mid-range devices with variable bandwidth. You need highly adaptable content to contend with that reality, which will then best serve a younger, mobile-first population.
But challenge and opportunity can be two sides of the same coin. We know products built for European desktop audiences simply don’t translate. They’re too heavy, too slow and priced for the wrong wallet. Success demands lightweight, fast-loading games, including crash, instant-win and light titles alongside slots, seamless integration with local payment methods and mobile money, and genuine localisation. The regulatory picture is also maturing quickly, so operators and suppliers need partners who track compliance market by market. Those who treat West Africa as one homogeneous region will struggle, whereas those who respect its diversity will thrive.”
On the qualities that technology partners should deliver to support long-term success, Ekaterina explained:
“We’d point to three attributes: reliability, relevance and responsiveness.
Reliability means a tech stack that performs at scale, which translates to fast integration, high uptime and games that load instantly even on entry-level devices and patchy connections. In emerging markets, every second of load time is churn.
Relevance means curation, not just volume. Operators don’t need ten thousand titles; they need the right titles for their audience, backed by data on what actually converts and retains in each market.
Responsiveness is the quality most often underestimated. Markets like those in West Africa evolve monthly as new payment rails, regulations and player trends emerge. A technology partner has to track those developments in lockstep: 24/7 support, rapid certification of new content and a roadmap shaped by what operators on the ground are telling us. Long-term success comes from partners who behave like an extension of the operator’s own team, not a vendor at arm’s length.”
Highlighting the importance of collaboration across the gaming ecosystem, she noted:
“Partnership is core to our model. As the leading game aggregator for emerging markets, we sit between hundreds of studios and operators across Africa, Asia and LatAm, and our job is to make both sides more successful than they’d be without us. It needs to be a win-win. You have to support ongoing portfolio optimisation with relevant performance analysis, which in turn reduces technical and operational complexity for our partners.
For operators, that means a single integration that unlocks a continuously expanding content portfolio, plus the tools to drive engagement locally, from QTech Promotions to tailored tournaments. Our recent rollouts with partners such as BongoBongo across Tanzania, Zambia, Kenya and Uganda, and KodeDice’s expansion across Africa’s fastest-growing markets, show how quickly the right content mix can scale.
For game providers, we’re a bridge into markets that are otherwise costly and complex to enter, offering distribution, market insight and guidance on what plays well where. As an aggregator, QTech sits on some of the best data in the industry, which will be key in the future.
Being named Strategic Partner of the Year at the 2026 Africa Gaming Expo reflects that philosophy: we win when our partners win, in every market we serve.”
Looking ahead to the SBWA+ Summit and GEFA 2026, Ekaterina commented:
“The SBWA+ Summit already ranks among the premier conferences for senior executives in the African gaming and betting sector, while GEFA is another key summit that is fast rising in standing because Francophone Africa is a very interesting and strategically important market, offering strong long-term growth. These events bring together leadership teams and product specialists from retail and digital operators across this evolving continent, alongside many others, to share and challenge ideas on best practices, launches in emerging markets, localised marketing strategies and the latest technology.
These eclectic Eventus conferences always gather the region’s top operators, affiliates, regulators, marketers and suppliers for strategic discussions, practical learning and meaningful connections. As a result, they facilitate vital conversations that expand our collective knowledge of the current demands and characteristics of the continent, and how best to navigate the varying requirements of its evolving ecosystem.
The African gaming sector remains ripe for growth, and this year’s SBWA+ Summit will explore developments in depth, from regulation to technology, delivering fresh insights and fostering critical connections between local and international players, from established market leaders to talented emerging challenger brands.”
The insights shared reflect the importance of understanding local markets, embracing innovation and building strong partnerships to support sustainable growth across Africa’s rapidly evolving gaming industry.
