Layer-1 blockchain Qubic has resumed its network operations and initiated a recovery effort following a substantial security incident that resulted in the loss of approximately $1.4 million in QU tokens. According to the latest update from the Qubic team, an attacker exploited a vulnerability in wallet seed generation, successfully draining funds from 1,404 user accounts.
Network resumed after security halt
Blockchain explorer data indicates that Qubic restarted the processing of blocks, or “ticks,” at 8:00 pm on October 19. The network had previously been halted at tick 85,371,949 in response to the exploit, which occurred on Sunday. This pause was implemented to stop any further unauthorized movements of funds.
Qubic’s decision to halt the network followed the identification of a flaw affecting wallets created using the project’s web-based wallet platform on specific Apple devices and browsers. The wallet vulnerability stemmed from an insecure random-number generator, making it possible for attackers to predict wallet seeds and gain access to user funds.
Validator approval and recovery plan
Qubic reported that its validators, referred to as Computors, had given their consent to proceed with a formal recovery plan. As part of this process, the project launched a dedicated claims platform designed to help victims of the exploit recover their lost assets.
Affected users can verify their wallet addresses and submit claims through the Qubic reclaim platform. The project set a deadline of May 1, 2027, for users to file their claims. Users are encouraged to act within this timeframe to ensure eligibility for potential reimbursement.
“If you created your wallet with the Qubic web wallet before version 4.26.4 (released 19 October), treat it as insecure, even if your funds were never touched,” the Qubic team stated. They urged all users to update their software, create a new wallet, and promptly transfer their assets to the new address. “Move your funds to the new wallet as soon as you can, and never use the old one again,” they added.
Patch and user guidance
Qubic confirmed the release of web wallet version 4.26.4, which resolves the seed-generation vulnerability. Users of previous wallet versions are advised to upgrade immediately, regardless of whether their funds were impacted, to avoid future risks.
The swift release of the patch and the coordinated network restart aim to provide relief and reassurance to the affected community. Qubic’s proactive approach emphasizes the importance of ongoing vigilance over wallet security, especially in decentralized ecosystems.
As attention remains focused on the aftermath of this exploit, market observers underscore the value of monitoring both price action and investor activity, particularly in emerging segments like meme tokens. In the meme token market, an internet trend can transform into millions of dollars of interest within days. According to data shared by Fomo App, a trade involving “Niu Lai”—which turned an initial $99 investment into approximately $370,000—stands out as a striking example of this activity. In this market, tracking not only prices but also the timing and token choices of investors is crucial. Fomo App brings token discovery and trading together on a single platform, featuring social feeds, investor rankings, and trade notifications.
