Ripple has partnered with global brokerage infrastructure provider DriveWealth to integrate its RLUSD stablecoin into stock trading operations, connecting blockchain-based payments and collateral management with a network supporting more than 100 financial partners worldwide.
According to Ripple's October 14 announcement, the companies will introduce RLUSD settlement infrastructure on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), beginning in Europe, with plans to expand into the United States.
The agreement also covers international payments, digital asset custody and potential equity financing services through Ripple Prime, extending Ripple's institutional infrastructure beyond cryptocurrency markets.
Ripple Brings RLUSD to DriveWealth's 100-Partner Brokerage Network
DriveWealth provides Brokerage-as-a-Service technology that allows fintech platforms, digital wallets and financial institutions to offer investment products without building their own brokerage infrastructure.
Its technology supports more than 100 partners globally, giving Ripple access to an established network serving international investors.
Under the agreement, DriveWealth is integrating Ripple's stablecoin infrastructure to support settlement operations using RLUSD on XRPL. The system will also incorporate Ripple's minting and redemption capabilities.
The companies intend to let clients fund and manage collateral accounts using stablecoins that can be converted into cash in near real time.
The integration builds on the growing role of RLUSD custody in institutional finance, following Standard Chartered's recent launch of custody services for Ripple's stablecoin.
However, the partnership does not mean that 100 brokerage partners have already adopted RLUSD. DriveWealth has announced an integration, but neither company disclosed participating customers, transaction volumes or a completion date.
Can XRP Ledger Payments Improve US Stock Settlement?
The central challenge involves a mismatch between how quickly securities settle and how long international funding transfers can take.
US stock trades currently follow a T+1 settlement cycle, meaning securities transactions generally settle one business day after execution.
Cross-border bank transfers can take longer, particularly when institutions operate across different banking hours, payment systems and currencies.
DriveWealth already offers trading access during extended market hours, but moving cash internationally remains a separate operational process.
Using RLUSD could allow eligible clients to transfer funds outside conventional banking windows and convert stablecoin balances into cash more quickly.
The model resembles developments in institutional collateral, where Ripple Prime has expanded access to traditional financial markets through digital asset infrastructure.
Importantly, faster funding does not automatically replace the regulated clearing and settlement process for US equities.
The announcement concerns the movement and management of money around brokerage activity, not the immediate transfer of stock ownership through XRPL.
Ripple Prime Expands Into Equity Financing and Digital Asset Custody
The partnership extends beyond RLUSD transactions.
DriveWealth is also integrating Ripple Payments for cross-border transfers and working with Ripple on digital asset custody infrastructure, initially focused on Europe.
Additionally, DriveWealth and Ripple Prime are exploring opportunities involving equity financing through the brokerage platform's Delta One business.
That division expanded Ripple's institutional capabilities following its $1.25 billion acquisition of Hidden Road, supporting products linked to equities and equity derivatives.
The broader strategy also complements Ripple's XRPL wallet infrastructure, which aims to make digital asset payments easier to integrate into financial applications.
For XRP holders, the partnership provides another example of XRPL adoption, although its direct effect on token demand remains unclear.
RLUSD transactions on XRPL use XRP for network fees and account reserves, but the agreement does not establish substantial new XRP purchases or disclose expected transaction volumes.
The companies plan to discuss their collaboration at Ripple Swell in New York on October 28, where investors may receive further details about implementation.
For now, DriveWealth's brokerage network represents a potentially significant distribution channel for RLUSD, while the scale of actual adoption remains to be demonstrated.
