Yellow Network, a startup with a $10 million investment from Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, has launched a pioneering technology aimed at facilitating instant settlements between autonomous AI programs. The XRPtoken is set to serve as the foundational payment mechanism, merging Yellow’s high-speed channels with the XRP Ledger network, according to preliminary details shared by the project.
Revolutionizing AI Agent Transactions
The developed software is expected to enable AI agents to conduct transactions within the system without incurring fees. Final settlements are to be instantaneously recorded on the XRP blockchain, aiming to swiftly execute a multitude of minor transactions within the network.
Acting like a digital trust layer, Yellow Network ensures security in transactions between AI agents who do not have prior acquaintance. When two AI agents agree on data, computational power, or another digital service, the system promptly verifies and secures the transaction, before relaying it to the XRP Ledger for closure.
Yellow Network positions XRP as the core consensus tool of the new AI stack, integrating high-speed channel architecture with the XRP Ledger’s on-chain closing capabilities.
Enhancing Efficiency Beyond Traditional Banking
The initiative stems from the inability of conventional banking infrastructures to support the speed required by AI agents. Software on the network needs to complete payments in fractions of a second, a pace at which traditional money transfers might falter. Moreover, since these agents are generally unknown to each other prior to interaction, securing the transaction is paramount.
XRP Ledger stands out due to its low cost and predictability, completing a transfer typically within 3 to 5 seconds, with transaction fees being minute fractions of a cent. These features are crucial, particularly in structures handling millions of micro-transactions.
Evidence of Efficacy in AI Transactions
The infrastructure is currently operational on the XRPL AI Hub, which hosts 174 registered AI services. Autonomous agents have completed over 14.5 million micro-transactions so far, alongside approximately 6,000 agreements.
During these transactions, agents exchanged payments for services like inference directing, token analysis, and contextual data, utilizing the x402 protocol. The project aims to leverage XRP liquidity for the digital economy focusing on artificial intelligence.
The execution of over 14.5 million micro-transactions by the 174 services registered on the XRPL AI Hub indicates a transition past the testing stage for the automatic payment infrastructure among AI agents.
Chris Larsen’s financial backing aligns the initiative with broader objectives within the Ripple ecosystem. Yellow Network’s innovative setup highlights a step towards establishing an XRP-based payment framework, allowing AI agents to autonomously procure services from one another without human intervention.
