Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has described 2026 as a phenomenal year for the company, citing significant growth in transaction volumes and expanding opportunities to use XRP across its financial services.

In an interview with crypto researcher BankXRP at Ripple Swell, Garlinghouse discussed the company’s institutional strategy, the role of XRP in its products, and his expectations for wider adoption over the next five years. Ripple CTO David Schwartz also offered his perspective on how real-world asset tokenization could support mass retail adoption.

Garlinghouse Explains Ripple’s Expanding Business

During the interview posted on X, BankXRP asked Garlinghouse to describe Ripple, XRP, and the company’s current position.

Garlinghouse explained that Ripple began by addressing payment challenges through blockchain technology before expanding into corporate treasury services and prime brokerage.

He added that XRP remains central to the company’s strategy, although Ripple does not expect it to serve every use case. He said Ripple would prioritize XRP wherever it makes sense, noting that doing so serves the company’s interests.

However, he acknowledged that some transactions may work better with traditional currencies or stablecoins such as RLUSD.

Garlinghouse said he would rather see XRP handle a small percentage of a customer’s transactions than see the asset account for none of them. He added that people sometimes concentrate too much on the size of XRP’s share instead of the overall size of the market Ripple can serve.

Ripple Records Significant Transaction Growth in 2026

Garlinghouse described 2026 as a strong year for Ripple, despite his preference for broader gains across cryptocurrency markets. He pointed to growing transaction volumes as evidence of the company’s progress and its expanding opportunity to facilitate activity involving XRP.

According to the CEO, revenue across Ripple’s customer base increased from $300 million to $900 million. He also cited approximately $16 trillion in transaction value processed through the company’s operations during the previous year.

Garlinghouse compared that transaction volume with Visa’s scale, while clarifying that approximately 99.9% of the $16 trillion still moved through traditional payment systems.

He said Ripple could increase both its overall transaction volume and the proportion that moves through blockchain-based infrastructure. Garlinghouse expressed hope that he could report next year that 1% to 3% of the existing volume had shifted to alternative rails, describing such a transition as significant.

Garlinghouse Predicts Wider XRP Adoption

Looking five years ahead, Garlinghouse said he expects XRP to become an institutional standard for cryptocurrency-based financial infrastructure. Ripple’s former CTO, David Schwartz offered a shorter timeline, suggesting blockchain could become part of everyday financial infrastructure within three years.

He pointed to real-world adoption and the tokenization of real-world assets as key developments that could expand retail participation, adding that mass adoption would be an important measure of the industry’s success.

Together, the executives outlined a future driven by greater institutional use, increased transaction activity, and wider access to blockchain-based financial services, with XRP remaining central to Ripple’s strategy.
