XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit Gets a Major Update
Ripple has released version 1.1 of its XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit, adding support for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) and the Open Wallet Standard. MPP is an open payment standard developed jointly by global payments company Stripe and Layer 1 blockchain Tempo.MPP allows AI agents to pay for services like data and computing. The updated kit allows AI agents to pay for online services with $XRP and ledger-issued tokens such as RLUSD.
MPP enables pay-per-use functionality: service providers quote prices for requests, agents authorize payments, and providers then deliver resources. The Open Wallet Standard integration lets agents request transactions without accessing private keys and enforces safeguards such as spending limits and approved destinations.
"Our job is to make XRP and RLUSD first-class options wherever developers are building," RippleX head of product Jazzi Cooper wrote on X.
Dual Standards Give Developers More Choice
The update follows Ripple's June support for the x402 standard. That is a separate track from x402, the open payment protocol Ripple integrated in June, which already counts Stripe, Coinbase and Cloudflare among its backers.Supporting both x402 and MPP gives developers using either standard a way to accept payments on the XRP Ledger.
A business building around Stripe and Tempo's open protocol could offer XRP or RLUSD payments through the new integration, giving Ripple a route into applications whose developers chose their payment standard before choosing a blockchain.
The beta software supports one-time payments and ongoing XRP payment sessions, while extending those sessions to stablecoins depends on a proposed ledger upgrade.Ripple's announcement does not name any customers running the MPP integration commercially, and no payment volume figures have been disclosed for that specific feature.
