@Ripple, the company behind $XRP, has received final approval from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for Ripple National Trust Bank (RNTB). Crypto Briefing reported that the sign-off completes a process that began with conditional approval on December 12, 2025.

What the approval allows

The charter does two main jobs, according to Crypto Briefing. It lets the bank manage the reserves backing RLUSD, Ripple's US dollar stablecoin, and it lets the bank provide custody and fiduciary services to enterprise customers holding digital assets. RNTB is a national trust bank based in New York.

RLUSD is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, which is regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). With RNTB in place, the stablecoin's reserve arrangements now sit under oversight from both the OCC and the NYDFS.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse announced the decision on X. Bloomingbit reported that Ripple plans to use the trust bank to support RLUSD operations and provide digital asset custody for corporate clients. Ripple said the approval shows cooperation between traditional finance and the digital asset industry.

Limits and competitive context

The approval has clear limits. Under the terms of the approval, RNTB's operations are limited to fiduciary activities. The bank will not take deposits and will not make loans, so the charter cannot be used to build a lending business.

Ripple is not the first crypto firm to reach this stage. Circle's national trust entity received full OCC approval in July 2026, according to Our Crypto Talk, which put Circle a step ahead of Ripple until now. Crypto Briefing said the OCC granted conditional approvals to Circle, Paxos and BitGo on the same day as Ripple in December 2025.

The approvals followed the GENIUS Act, enacted in July 2025, which Crypto Briefing said set up a federal framework for US stablecoins. The outlet added that dual oversight from the OCC and the NYDFS is expected to boost confidence in RLUSD, and that the charter gives Ripple a second line of business beyond its own stablecoin.

The news is relevant to $XRP holders as a sign of Ripple's push into regulated banking infrastructure, though the approval concerns RLUSD reserves and custody rather than the XRP token itself.
