Key takeaways

  • Robinhood plans RLUSD access through its retail app
  • Ripple partnership expands institutional settlement and treasury operations
  • Bitstamp gains broader financing and trading infrastructure

Robinhood plans to bring Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin to its retail trading app later in 2026, potentially opening another distribution channel for the digital dollar across a brokerage platform that reported 28.6 million funded customers in August.

The announcement, made October 27 during Ripple Swell in New York, also expands the companies' relationship into institutional settlement, corporate treasury operations and cryptocurrency financing.

According to Ripple's official announcement, RLUSD is already available on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood. However, the companies have not confirmed when the stablecoin will become available in the main Robinhood app or which customers will be eligible.

Robinhood Plans RLUSD App Launch as Ripple Expands Distribution

Robinhood's planned integration represents a potential expansion of Ripple's stablecoin distribution beyond institutional trading venues.

The company reported 28.6 million funded customers in August, although that figure does not indicate how many would be eligible to hold or trade RLUSD.

Ripple said RLUSD has exceeded $2.4 billion in market capitalization since launching in December 2024, while the broader stablecoin market now exceeds $300 billion.

The agreement builds on Robinhood's broader blockchain strategy, including its Robinhood Chain, which supports tokenized assets and financial applications.

Separately, Ripple recently partnered with DriveWealth to explore RLUSD-powered funding for a brokerage infrastructure network serving more than 100 partners.

Neither initiative guarantees substantial stablecoin transaction volumes, but both expand the infrastructure through which RLUSD could reach financial institutions.

Ripple Treasury and Bitstamp Financing Form Wider Partnership

The Robinhood agreement extends into the brokerage's internal financial operations.

Robinhood plans to integrate Ripple Treasury for cash positioning, liquidity management, payments, forecasting, risk management and transactions between corporate entities.

The move follows Ripple's 24/7 treasury expansion, which introduced additional digital asset capabilities for corporate finance teams.

For institutional trading, Ripple Prime already provides Bitstamp by Robinhood with lending and margin financing across approximately 20 digital assets.

Ripple Prime clients can also access spot trading through Bitstamp, with perpetual futures trading support planned for later this year.

Robinhood also intends to use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional settlement, potentially extending stablecoin applications beyond exchange trading.

The companies did not disclose a settlement launch date, expected transaction volumes or the financial terms of the agreement.

What Does Robinhood's Partnership Mean for XRP?

The announcement strengthens Ripple's institutional finance strategy but does not establish that Robinhood will purchase large quantities of XRP.

RLUSD is a separate dollar-backed stablecoin, while XRP is the native cryptocurrency used for transaction fees and account reserves on the XRP Ledger.

Ripple's recently approved national trust bank adds another regulatory component to its stablecoin infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the partnership joins a series of announcements surrounding Swell 2026, where traditional finance institutions are exploring blockchain settlement and custody.

The expansion also comes during a difficult year for XRP, which has declined despite Ripple's institutional partnerships.
