Two major developments in institutional digital assets are converging. Canton Network just confirmed that Ripple Custody has completed its integration.
Crypto analyst Chad Steingraber noticed the timing immediately, posting “Right before the DTCC launches. Funny how things work out, huh?” The integration and the incoming DTCC tokenization launch stack two significant catalysts on top of each other, with XRP in the middle of both.
What the Ripple Custody Integration Means
Ripple Custody now supports Canton Coin and CIP-56 tokens. Institutions can now hold and move Canton assets inside the custody platform they already use. They don’t need an additional service provider. Each institution runs its own node.
Existing policy controls carry over to every Canton transaction automatically. For institutions already running Ripple Custody, Canton assets now sit alongside everything else they hold. That consolidation removes friction at exactly the moment institutional demand for tokenized assets is accelerating.
The DTCC Pilot
The DTCC Tokenization Service is scheduled to launch commercially this month. The service enables institutions to hold tokenized representations of DTC-custodied securities, including Russell 1000 equities, major ETFs, and U.S. Treasuries. Canton Network is one of two blockchains the DTCC will run on at launch, alongside Hyperledger Besu.
The DTCC processed its first live production trades on July 15, validating the infrastructure ahead of this commercial rollout. More than 100 firms are now part of the DTCC Industry Working Group, including Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, and BNY Mellon.
Why XRP Benefits
XRP serves as a bridge asset within Ripple’s network. Canton handles the private settlement layer for institutional ownership records. Rather than competing, the two ecosystems now operate as complementary infrastructure.
Ripple Custody connecting to Canton means Ripple’s institutional clients gain direct access to the same network the DTCC is using for tokenized securities. That connection puts XRP-adjacent infrastructure at the center of real-world asset settlement at scale.
Steingraber highlighted the timing between the Canton integration and the DTCC launch, noting the coordination looked anything but accidental. One observer suggested that the timing was pre-scheduled years in advance, adding context to what some read as a surprise.
One user posted XRP’s price chart alongside the news, noting the development arrived just in time to save the asset from the recent decline. Another community member is optimistic that the news would prove bullish for XRP. Another took a longer view, suggesting holders who accumulated at low prices had little reason for concern regardless of short-term movement.
