J. A. Akinyele, Head of Engineering at RippleX, has revealed why quantum readiness has become an urgent priority for the XRP Ledger, stating that the industry can no longer treat quantum threats as a distant concern. According to Akinyele, RippleX is already executing a multi-phase strategy designed to prepare XRPL for a post-quantum future by 2028.
In a video shared by RippleX, Akinyele explained that the blockchain sector now recognizes that “Q-Day” is not a question of if but when. The term refers to the point when sufficiently advanced quantum computers could potentially break the cryptographic systems that secure today’s digital networks.
According to Akinyele, waiting until that moment arrives would create unnecessary risks for blockchain ecosystems. Consequently, RippleX has started laying the groundwork years in advance to ensure the XRP Ledger remains secure as computing technology evolves.
He noted that the transition involves much more than a routine software update. Instead, it represents a significant architectural change that will require coordination across the broader XRPL ecosystem.

RippleX Unveils Multi-Phase Quantum Security Roadmap
According to Akinyele, the first phase focuses on evaluating post-quantum cryptographic signatures that could protect the network against future quantum attacks. RippleX plans to test multiple standardized solutions before selecting the most suitable option for the XRP Ledger. Moreover, engineers must ensure any selected technology preserves the network’s core principles of security, reliability, and decentralization. Those assessments will determine which framework moves forward into deployment.
Once RippleX identifies the preferred cryptographic standard, developers will integrate it into the XRP Ledger and verify that it meets performance and security requirements. Additionally, the team will test the solution under real-world conditions to ensure it can support future growth without compromising network stability.
The third phase involves migrating the broader ecosystem. According to Akinyele, this stage will require participation from developers, validators, wallet providers, exchanges, and other key stakeholders connected to XRPL.
