@RobinhoodApp has formally opened its brokerage platform to autonomous AI agents, launching a product it calls Agentic Trading built on its own Model Context Protocol (MCP) server infrastructure.
How It Works
Agentic Trading is a new type of brokerage product that allows users to connect a third-party AI agent to a dedicated Robinhood account to automate investment decisions and order placement. The connection runs through MCP servers, an emerging open standard that lets third-party AI tools integrate directly with platforms like Robinhood without scraping apps or relying on unofficial APIs. Compatible agents include widely used models such as Claude and ChatGPT.
The design principle is isolation: the agentic account is completely separate from the user's main portfolio. Agents see only the capital a user explicitly deposits there and cannot reach the primary account.Users receive push notifications any time their agent makes a trade and can view a real-time activity feed and P&L directly in the Robinhood app. If needed, the agent can be disconnected at any time with a single tap.
Scope and Risks
Robinhood's Agentic Trading was announced on May 27, 2026, and lets US users connect an AI agent to Robinhood's MCP servers so the agent can place equity trades on the user's behalf. At launch, the beta supports equities only. Options, crypto, futures, event contracts, and prediction markets are on the roadmap for later in 2026.
The product operates differently from traditional investing, and trades may be executed by an AI agent without the user's direct input on each transaction. Agentic trading involves significant risk, including the possible loss of an entire investment. AI-driven strategies may perform poorly under certain market conditions and may be difficult to monitor or stop in real time. Robinhood is clear that users remain fully responsible for trades their AI agents place, as Robinhood's terms do not shift liability to the agent or the model provider.
The launch marks the first time a US retail broker has turned MCP into a trading rail rather than a developer convenience. CEO Vlad Tenev framed the move in straightforward terms: "Our mission has always been to democratize finance for all, and now, that mission extends to AI agents."
