Four years ago, Robinhood removed XRP from its platform under regulatory pressure. Now the company is running its institutional settlement operations on the XRP Ledger.
The reversal is striking, and Levi Rietveld, creator of Crypto Crusaders, broke down exactly what the new Ripple partnership means for XRP in a new video.
From Delisting to Deep Integration
Robinhood delisted XRP in 2020 after the SEC sued Ripple Labs, alleging the token was an unregistered security. The lawsuit suppressed XRP’s price and many exchanges delisted it in the U.S. Robinhood only relisted XRP for U.S. customers in late 2024, following a shift in the regulatory environment. Two years later, Robinhood has gone far beyond simply listing the asset.
Ripple and Robinhood announced a multi-layered partnership covering RLUSD, Ripple Prime, and Ripple Treasury. RLUSD is already live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood. The main Robinhood app will add RLUSD later this year.
Robinhood confirmed it will leverage RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional settlement, extending the stablecoin’s utility across Bitstamp’s growing institutional business.
Ripple’s Infrastructure Goes Company-Wide
Rietveld emphasized that this partnership goes well beyond a token listing. “They are plugging into the Ripple treasury to automate their own global company cash, using Ripple Prime for financing, and rolling out RLUSD across Robinhood and their Bitstamp exchange,” he said. Robinhood is adopting Ripple’s backend infrastructure across its entire operation, not just its trading interface.
Ripple Treasury will manage Robinhood’s internal cash operations. Ripple Prime will handle financing. The XRP Ledger sits at the core of the institutional settlement layer. Every large on-chain transaction through Robinhood or Bitstamp runs through that infrastructure.
XRP’s Role in the Settlement Layer
Rietveld focused on XRP’s specific function within the partnership. He noted that Robinhood confirmed RLUSD will settle institutional trades directly on the XRP Ledger. XRP serves as the native asset powering those transfers, burning on each settlement and providing liquidity beneath the platform.
Robinhood manages an $85 billion empire. Rietveld argued that once that volume moves across the ledger at scale, price targets that seem distant today become more realistic. “XRP reclaiming $2.50 or even $3 is right back on the table in my opinion,” he said, once Robinhood’s volume kicks in.
The arc from the 2020 delisting to today’s infrastructure partnership is significant. Robinhood once removed XRP to avoid regulatory consequences. Now it runs settlement operations on the network that XRP powers and has made bullish statements about the asset.
