Key Insights

  • Robinhood news confirms FCA registration for planned UK crypto services.
  • Approval permits trade arrangement but excludes direct exchange operation and custody.
  • HOOD stock rose as investors weighed expansion against weaker crypto revenue.

Robinhood has secured UK crypto registration as its British subsidiary joins the Financial Conduct Authority cryptoasset register. The latest Robinhood news clears an important compliance hurdle before the company launches digital asset services across Britain. The approval took effect on July 31 and confirms compliance with current anti-money laundering rules.

However, the registration does not grant Robinhood unrestricted crypto permissions. The firm may arrange customer trades through another provider. It cannot operate a crypto exchange or safeguard customer tokens under the listed permissions. HOOD stock gained in early Monday trading as investors assessed the expansion and its regulatory limits.

Robinhood News Shows What the FCA Registration Covers

The FCA register lists Robinhood UK Ltd as a registered cryptoasset business. This status allows services covered by Britain’s current anti-money laundering framework. Registration does not represent a broad endorsement of every Robinhood crypto product.

FCA data shows 67 applicants had secured registration since January 2020 by July 1, 2026. Robinhood therefore joins an established group before the current gateway begins winding down.

Under the listed scope, Robinhood may arrange cryptoasset deals for customers. Another authorized company would execute or complete those orders. The permission does not cover operating an exchange or providing direct crypto custody.

This Robinhood news shapes how the company could enter the market. Robinhood already owns Bitstamp, which processed $22 billion in crypto volume. However, the company has not confirmed its UK execution partner.

The company has also not announced a launch date or supported token list. FCA registration under the current regime focuses mainly on financial crime controls. It does not guarantee access to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme or Financial Ombudsman Service.

Robinhood News Arrives Before the New UK Crypto Regime

Britain will introduce a broader authorization framework for crypto companies on October 25, 2027. The FCA application window opens on September 30, 2026, and closes on February 28, 2027.

Existing registrations will not automatically become full permissions under the new framework. Every affected company must apply for authorization under the Financial Services and Markets Act. The FCA will assess current and registered firms against the same future standards.

Those standards cover capital strength, consumer treatment, operational resilience, safeguarding, trading platforms, and market conduct. Companies must request permission for each regulated activity they plan to offer.

Therefore, Robinhood’s current status provides a compliance foothold but not a permanent license. The company must still explain its planned UK operating model. It must also show which entity will execute trades and hold customer assets.

The timing supports Robinhood’s previously announced British expansion. In July, the company said it planned to introduce crypto trading in the UK. This Robinhood news moves that plan closer to execution without completing the tougher 2027 process.

HOOD Stock Gains as Crypto Revenue Drops in the Quarter

HOOD stock traded near $91 at the time of writing, rising about 4.8% from its previous close, Yahoo Finance data showed. The move followed the FCA update and Robinhood’s recent quarterly results.

Robinhood reported record second-quarter revenue of $1.31 billion, up 32% year over year. Net income rose 48% to $573 million, while diluted earnings reached $0.62 per share.

Crypto transaction revenue moved in the opposite direction. The segment generated $100 million, down 38% from the previous year. Crypto trading volume reached $40 billion, including $22 billion processed through Bitstamp.

Meanwhile, Robinhood news around the approval follows a broader international crypto push. The company launched Robinhood Chain and expanded stock tokens to eligible users in more than 120 countries. It also confirmed plans for UK crypto offerings during its July product event.
