FCA Registration Confirmed
@RobinhoodCrypto has secured its place on the UK's regulatory map, with its British arm formally added to the Financial Conduct Authority's list of registered crypto asset businesses. The registration took effect on July 31, 2026, authorising the firm to offer digital asset services under the UK's existing anti-money laundering framework.
The Financial Conduct Authority supervises anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing controls for every UK crypto asset firm under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. For Robinhood, landing this registration now is a meaningful step. Firms that have not secured MLR registration face immediate enforcement risk and cannot legally provide exchange or custody services in the United Kingdom.
A Head Start Before the 2027 Overhaul
The timing is significant. The UK is preparing its most comprehensive overhaul of digital asset oversight to date. The FCA published its final policy statements and rules for the new crypto asset regulatory regime on June 30, 2026, following Parliament's passage of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Cryptoassets) Regulations 2026 in February of that year.
Until October 2027, the FCA's oversight of crypto firms remains focused on anti-money laundering registration and financial promotions controls. After that, the bar rises sharply. The full regulatory framework takes effect on October 25, 2027, covering exchanges, custodians, stablecoin issuers, staking firms, and more, and existing AML registrations will not automatically transfer to the new regime.
Robinhood's early registration positions it well ahead of that transition window. Firms already registered under the existing AML regime must apply separately for the new authorisation, and over 85% of firms that applied under the existing AML registration process were rejected or withdrew their applications, signalling how demanding the full authorisation process is likely to be.
For a US-based platform expanding into Europe, the FCA stamp carries weight. Securing the registration now gives Robinhood UK a compliance baseline and operational footing as the broader regime takes shape over the next year.
