Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay will support USDC transfers on Solana for cross-border remittances, starting in the last week of October across 82 million U.S. Galaxy devices. The move marks a significant push to bring stablecoin payments into the mainstream consumer wallet experience, without requiring users to download a separate crypto app.
Built Into the Wallet You Already Use
The feature is built into Samsung Wallet rather than alongside it. Users will be able to send a remittance from the same interface they already use for cards, boarding passes, and IDs, with integrated fiat on- and off-ramps converting to and from local currency, while Solana's infrastructure operates behind the scenes. The Sui Network will also provide supporting infrastructure as part of the multi-partner arrangement.
Eligible Galaxy users will be able to send USDC directly from Samsung Wallet to compatible crypto wallets internationally, with no transfer fees charged by Samsung. Samsung Wallet will also enable eligible users to send money to qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries, with funds delivered in the recipient's local currency. Fees apply to those bank transfers, vary by destination country and amount, and are shown in the app with an estimated delivery time before the sender confirms.
Custody, Compliance, and the Coinbase Connection
Bastion, a stablecoin infrastructure provider for global enterprises and financial institutions, has been selected by Samsung as the licensed stablecoin custodian and an infrastructure partner for the new built-in stablecoin capabilities inside Samsung Wallet. Bastion has partnered with Coinbase as its official sub-custodian, safeguarding all USDC in Samsung Wallet through Coinbase Prime Vault.
Samsung described the upcoming feature as the next stage of its collaboration with Coinbase. Last year, Samsung expanded the Coinbase partnership to let U.S. Galaxy users fund Coinbase accounts with Samsung Pay.
Transfers will also require biometric authentication on registered Galaxy devices. The stated device reach describes the potential distribution of the feature, not confirmed adoption.
