15-Year-Old Bitcoin Wallet Moves $2.43 Million

A Bitcoin wallet that last saw activity in the summer of 2011 has moved 28.46 $BTC now valued at approximately $2.43 million. Galaxy Research flagged the transfer on-chain, reporting that the coins, first received on June 12, 2011, cleared in block 970281 at 03:33 UTC on October 7, 2026, after sitting completely untouched for roughly 15.2 years.

When those coins were originally received, $BTC traded at around $15 per coin, putting the wallet's total acquisition cost at roughly $427. At current prices, the estimated gain comes to about 582,198%, according to Galaxy Research's tracking data. That figure is based on estimated cost basis and represents an unrealized-to-realized calculation. The blockchain record alone does not confirm a sale occurred or verify the exact original purchase price.

Kraken Labeled as Recipient, But Owner Remains Unknown

On-chain data attributes the receiving address to Kraken, but that label points only to where the funds may have been directed. Galaxy Research recorded no sender attribution for the address in its database, leaving the identity of whoever held these coins for over 15 years unconfirmed. The recipient label does not identify the wallet owner or explain the reason behind the transfer.

The movement is part of a broader pattern that has drawn attention from on-chain analysts throughout 2026. Alex Thorn, head of firmwide research at Galaxy Digital, has noted that dormant Bitcoin movement fell in the second quarter to its lowest level since Q3 2022, with 2026 on pace to see less than half as much dormant coin activity as 2025. Still, individual transfers from Satoshi-era wallets continue to surface, and the motivations behind each, whether security upgrades, custody changes, or potential liquidation, remain largely unknown.

The fact that the receiving address carries a Kraken label raises the possibility that the coins are being moved closer to a trading venue, but no on-chain evidence confirms a sale has taken place.
