In Brief:
- SBI Holdings invested $270 million in Ajaib, acquiring a 20% stake and supporting its broader Asian digital asset expansion plans.
- Ajaib provides access to equities, bonds, funds, crypto, stablecoins, payments, and institutional settlement services across Indonesia’s expanding financial services market.
- SBI operates exchanges in Japan and Singapore while developing stablecoin and blockchain projects under its regional economic zone initiative and strategy.
SBI Holdings has invested $270 million in Indonesian investment platform Ajaib Group, securing an approximately 20% stake in the company. The transaction makes Ajaib an equity-method affiliate of the Japanese financial services group.
Ajaib confirmed the strategic investment through a LinkedIn post, calling it Indonesia’s largest technology funding round since 2022. According to Ajaib, the latest capital injection increased its total funding since 2019 to more than $500 million.
Meanwhile, SBI confirmed its minority ownership but did not reveal the investment amount within its official announcement. The agreement gives SBI greater exposure to Indonesia’s expanding market for investments, payments, and digital asset services.
Ajaib provides access to domestic and international equities, bonds, mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds. Additionally, customers can use its platform for crypto assets, stablecoins, commodities, and foreign exchange products.
The company also provides savings and payment services alongside its broader range of investment products. Moreover, Ajaib offers stablecoin settlement services and liquidity to Indonesian companies and institutional investors through its over-the-counter operations.

Ajaib Supports SBI’s Regional Digital Asset Network
SBI plans to use the partnership to promote digital asset adoption and strengthen its presence across Asian financial markets. The group already operates SBI VC Trade in Japan and Coinhako in Singapore.
Besides those exchanges, SBI owns B2C2, a United Kingdom-based crypto market maker serving institutional participants. Its other digital asset projects include JPYSC, a yen stablecoin intended to support regulated financial settlements.
SBI is also developing Strium, a Layer 1 blockchain designed for financial applications and tokenized assets. Consequently, Ajaib adds an Indonesian platform that combines conventional investments with crypto trading and stablecoin settlement services.
Partnership Advances SBI’s APAC Economic Zone
SBI Holdings Chairman and President Yoshitaka Kitao emphasized the growing importance of international infrastructure during the tokenization era. According to Kitao, SBI is building a network of digital asset exchanges centered on Southeast Asian markets.
The network forms part of the company’s broader SBI APAC Digital Economic Zone initiative. Ajaib supports that strategy by connecting traditional financial products with digital assets through one investment platform.
Furthermore, SBI can bring its experience in trading, liquidity, blockchain infrastructure, and regulated crypto services into the partnership. Ajaib gains substantial capital and access to an established financial group operating across several major digital asset markets.
SBI, in return, secures a significant position within Indonesia’s growing retail and institutional investment sector. The $270 million investment strengthens SBI’s Southeast Asian expansion while supporting Ajaib’s development as a comprehensive multi-asset financial platform.
