Schroders has brought an emerging markets bond strategy to Solana through Centrifuge, marking its first deployment on the network. The November 4 announcement expands tokenized investing beyond cash and short-term government securities. Investors gain exposure to an actively managed strategy through a feeder fund structure, adding a different source of risk and return to blockchain markets.

Schroders Uses a Feeder Fund to Bring Bond Exposure Onchain

According to Centrifuge’s announcement, the offering provides tokenized exposure to the Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bond strategy. The manager brings more than 50 years of emerging markets debt experience and over 40 dedicated investment professionals.

The legal structure matters. Investors hold blockchain-based shares in a feeder fund, which invests in the underlying Schroders fund. They do not directly own individual bonds through the tokens.

Centrifuge supplies the infrastructure for issuing and managing those tokenized assets. This changes how investors access the strategy while retaining exposure to a professionally managed bond portfolio.

The asset manager oversaw approximately $1.1 trillion globally as of June. That figure describes its overall business, rather than assets transferred onto Solana through this launch. The announcement did not disclose an initial subscription total.

Tokenized Debt Adds Credit and Currency Risk Beyond Cash

Emerging markets debt exposes investors to government and corporate borrowers across developing economies. Returns can reflect credit quality, currency movements, interest rates and local economic conditions.

That differs from the cash-management role of many tokenized Treasury and money market products. Moving fund shares onto a blockchain does not remove the underlying investment risks.

For Schroders, the launch creates another distribution channel for active management. Centrifuge envisions tokenized strategies becoming components of collateral arrangements, investment vaults and financial applications. These are potential uses, rather than confirmation that every integration is available at launch.

The Solana deployment follows earlier tokenization work. In August, the firm obtained Irish regulatory approval for a tokenized share class of its dollar money market strategy.
