Japanese broker moves toward compliant DeFi
Japan’s third-largest securities house, SMBC Nikko Securities, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Uniswap Labs, Coinbase’s Base, and the Nyx Foundation to collaboratively develop a decentralized finance (DeFi) gateway tailored to Japanese regulatory requirements.
The partnership will introduce a venue utilizing Uniswap v4’s Hooks framework, enabling the creation of liquidity pools that enforce anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing guidelines. SMBC Nikko and its partners are aiming for a mid-2027 launch, with ongoing coordination and reporting to Japan’s Financial Services Agency.
Nethermind, a blockchain engineering firm, will contribute technical expertise. Its role includes engineering development, integrating artificial intelligence strategies, and auditing smart contract security for the new platform.
Base, the Ethereum layer-2 scaling platform operated by Coinbase, is also a core participant, linking the Japanese initiative to one of the most established US exchanges. According to collaboration details released on X, each liquidity pool will be designed to comply with Japanese investor protection and regulatory requirements.
SMBC Nikko, one of the country’s largest brokerage firms, is building a new trading platform powered by Uniswap’s protocol. The platform uses compliance controls within liquidity pools to align with Japan’s rules for investors, aiming to operate fully onchain starting mid-2027.
Market momentum and projections
Industry observers note that Uniswap’s market fundamentals have shown resilience. Data from CoinGlass indicates that UNI’s open interest stood at $915 million, slightly below its late September peak of $971 million but significantly above values earlier in the month. Funding rates for UNI remain positive, implying that traders maintaining long positions are paying fees, while the long/short ratio on Binance has decreased from 1.86 to 1.57—a signal that some bullish speculators have exited.
Earlier this year, Standard Chartered projected that Uniswap’s liquidity pools could expand asset holdings thirty-seven-fold by 2030, with the UNI token price potentially rising forty times over four years.
Key technical levels for UNI
Technical analysts have identified a possible cup-and-handle formation on UNI’s daily chart, with important resistance set at $10.30. This suggests a potential further upside of approximately 15% if the level is cleared. Additionally, short-term charts display a falling wedge pattern, pointing to a breakout target near $11.50 if resistance is overcome.
The MACD has shifted below its signal line, indicating waning upward momentum after September’s advances. RSI stands at 60.27, holding above neutral but moderating from earlier readings.
CoinGlass liquidation data indicates significant positions near $8.85 on the downside and $9.35 to the upside. Breaching the lower level could trigger a series of long liquidations.
Technical analysts note that UNI has shifted its structure in favor of bulls, with $11 marking a critical price test according to LAMBO Charts, while a falling wedge pattern between $8.50 and $10 could set up a move to $11.50 on a breakout.
Recent commentary by Crypto With Gopal also highlights that UNI’s net position delta is rising throughout price consolidation, seen as a sign of strengthening bullish momentum.
For continued short-term strength, UNI must recover $9.16 and surpass $9.35, potentially clearing the path to test $10.30.
