Alpenglow upgrade progress strengthens long-term outlook despite short-term market pressure.
Solana entered October with strong momentum after a powerful September rally. Buyers pushed the token toward the upper end of a key trading range and kept hopes alive for another breakout. Recent market conditions, however, have become less supportive. Slowing ETF demand, rising Treasury yields, and broader crypto weakness have started to test investor confidence. As a result, traders now face an important question: can SOL maintain support and continue higher, or is momentum beginning to fade?
SOL currently trades near the top of a range that has developed during recent weeks. Despite a pullback, the token remains well above August lows and continues to move within an upward trend structure. Many traders have identified the $114 to $117 range as a critical support zone. Holding above that area would help preserve the recent recovery. A strong defense could also keep buyers interested in another attempt higher. The next major obstacle sits between $124 and $125. That region has repeatedly blocked advances in recent weeks.
A successful move above that barrier would provide the clearest breakout signal so far. Market conditions have become more difficult. Bitcoin recently fell below $85,000 as Treasury yields climbed. Oil prices also moved back toward $90 per barrel. Those developments pressured risk assets across the market. SOL fell roughly 2.5% during that period. Even so, the broader uptrend remains intact for now. Traders continue to watch support levels closely for signs of strength or weakness.
ETF Demand Cools While Network Development Advances
One major change involves investment demand. US spot Solana ETFs attracted only about $2.4 million during the week ending October 2. That figure marked a sharp decline from the previous week's $188 million inflow. Market data also showed roughly $3.7 million leaving Solana funds on October 6. Those numbers suggest institutional demand has cooled since September. As a result, ETF buying no longer provides the same support seen during the recent rally.
From a technical perspective, a break below $114 could send SOL toward the $105 to $110 range. On the other hand, a daily close above $124 to $125 could shift momentum back toward buyers. Some chart analysts view $148 as a possible upside target following a confirmed breakout. That level remains conditional and depends on the support holding firm.
Beyond price action, Solana developers continue to make progress. The Alpenglow consensus upgrade recently went live on devnet and remains under testing. Early results appear encouraging. Testing showed transaction finality faster than originally targeted. The upgrade aims to replace the current consensus model and improve confirmation speeds.
