Solana co-founders Anatoly Yakovenko (Toly) and Raj Gokal appear to have made a major push into consumer-facing applications. The duo have announced the launch of Leap, a new trading platform being introduced “as a Solana Labs company.”
Launched on November 5, the application has already attracted significant attention across social media. Users are beginning to share their reactions and feedback.
Leap, the mobile trading app, is an all-in-one trading application. It will allow users to trade multiple asset classes under one roof, including cryptocurrencies, traditional stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), commodities, currencies and tokenized versions of stocks and ETFs.
Raj Gokal, Solana’s co-founder, outlined the thinking behind Leap in an X post. He highlighted the demand for an application focused on disciplined, long-term investing, Solana-native assets, network performance and the ability to integrate the latest standards quickly.
Gokal acknowledged that entering the highly competitive trading market comes with considerable risks.
“Solana is intensely competitive, and we are likely to fail,” he said. But he also argued that Solana Labs is uniquely positioned to develop a product that is impeccably designed and aligned with both users and the network.

What is Solana Labs’s New Trading App Leap?
Leap is designed to combine market discovery, trading and portfolio tracking within a single mobile application.
Its Home tab features daily curated market stories covering tokenized stocks, ETFs, commodities, currencies and cryptocurrencies, ranging from memecoins to broader macroeconomic developments. The feature allows users to explore market developments, read deeper analysis and build conviction before making trading decisions.
The application also places considerable emphasis on profit and loss (P&L) tracking. Leap has designed its portfolio experience around breakeven prices, accounting for deposits, withdrawals and trading fees to provide users with a clearer picture of their actual performance across individual assets, positions and their overall portfolio.
On the fee front, Leap currently charges no platform trading fees. Users still pay applicable network and routing costs, which are estimated upfront for each trade.
However, the company plans to introduce trading fees in the future. It will direct a portion of the resulting revenue towards buying and burning SOL tokens and funding referral rewards.
The application works with Jupiter for trade routing, Helius for infrastructure, and Birdeye and Tokens for market data. The team has also indicated that it intends to expand these partnerships as the platform develops.
Who has Built Leap?
Leap is being developed by the team behind Dialect, which Solana Labs acquired earlier this year.
Chris, who leads the Leap team, explained that the group had initially focused on building tools and infrastructure but increasingly encountered demand from users who wanted a dedicated consumer application.
He said that as the team brought its tools to market, people repeatedly asked why it did not build a consumer app of its own.

When Yakovenko approached the team about joining Solana Labs to develop a dedicated application for Solana, the opportunity aligned with its longer-term ambitions.
The acquisition and subsequent launch of Leap therefore mark a move further up the product stack. Solana Labs is now seeking to develop applications directly for end users.
Toly Says Solana Labs Will Compete With Everything, Sparks Debate
The launch represents another potential avenue for Solana adoption. But it has also sparked debate over whether Solana Labs’ growing product ambitions could create competition for independent ecosystem developers.
Some community members have questioned whether a company closely associated with the network’s development should also enter markets where independent Solana businesses are already operating.
Yakovenko has also publicly promoted Leap, including featuring the application on his X profile.
His comments have particularly attracted particular attention, after he posted Solana Labs is building a product that will “compete with everything.”
But later he clarified that Solana Labs operates separately from the Solana Foundation. That’s an important distinction as the company expands its presence in the application layer.
Yakovenko’s remarks about building a product that will compete with everything have further fuelled the discussion.
At the same time, Leap’s integration with Jupiter, Helius, Birdeye and other ecosystem projects indicates that the application will also rely on infrastructure developed by independent teams.
The larger question is whether Solana Labs’ direct entry into consumer trading will strengthen the wider ecosystem by attracting more users and capital or intensify competition between the company and independent builders.
With Leap now entering early access, its adoption and reception among users could offer an early indication of how this strategy unfolds.
