Key Insights:

  • Solana News reveals Solflare restricted code access and paused new additions.
  • System changes now require multiple approvals, which may slow development.
  • The migration deadline is November 30; eligible users can claim missed rewards

In Solana News, Solflare has extended the deadline for users to move staked SOL to a replacement validator, giving them until November 30. The Solana wallet also tightened internal security after several attacks and security incidents across the crypto industry.

Co-founder Vidor said access to Solflare’s infrastructure and code is restricted, every change needs multiple approvals, and the team has stopped adding new systems. The new controls may slow development, but Vidor said the company accepts that cost.

Separately, Solflare said it will cover staking rewards missed from October 26 through November 1 for customers who complete the migration.

Solflare Restricts Infrastructure and Code Access

The restrictions are designed to limit who can reach internal systems and approve software changes. Solflare now requires several approvals before any change moves forward. It has also paused new additions while the heightened controls are in place.

Vidor described the change as “bunker mode” in a November 2 statement. He acknowledged the controls would slow development but said the team accepted that trade-off.

The decision came as crypto firms faced a series of attacks. Solflare cited recent incidents across the industry. On October 29, Binance reported a breach involving about $6.3 billion in affected cryptocurrency assets.

Binance said a potentially compromised engineer’s laptop may have been an entry point. A separate Keystone incident exposed customer records; the company said private keys and recovery phrases remained unaffected. Those attacks form the wider security backdrop, while Solflare’s validator issue involved an outside provider.

Solana News: A Provider Incident Interrupted Staking Rewards

On October 27, the wallet said its provider reported a security incident involving keys linked to Solflare’s Solana validator. The affected validator stopped producing rewards while the provider investigated.

Solflare said customers’ delegated SOL remained in their stake accounts, controlled by their private keys. It added that no customer funds were taken.

A separate October 29 investigation by Bitquery traced unauthorized transfers from keys associated with several Solana validators, including Solflare’s. The analytics firm estimated that the attacker moved about $135,000 from five validators.

Unchained separately reported that roughly 1.56 million SOL was delegated to Solflare’s affected validator on October 28. That validator had stopped voting and generating rewards for delegators.

Solana News points to two incidents that had different effects: the outside provider incident interrupted validator rewards, while customers retained control of their delegated accounts. Solflare said validator keys could not be used to transfer SOL from those accounts.

Solflare Extends Its Validator Migration Deadline to November 30

November 1 was the earlier deadline set by Solflare for customers seeking payment for missed rewards. It later extended that date to November 30, giving affected users additional time to move their stake to a new Solflare validator.

The wallet said it will cover the rewards missed between October 26 and November 1 for customers who complete the move. Only users who complete the in-app migration qualify for missed-reward coverage during the stated dates. It has provided an in-app migration process for users.

The Solana wallet warned users to complete the process only through its official app. It said it would not contact customers by direct message or send migration links. Customers are asked to update the app and follow the instructions there.

Rewards resume after the transferred SOL becomes active on the replacement validator. Solana’s network processes validator changes through epochs, so activation and deactivation may take time. The Solana News update also warns users to watch out for fake migration links and to follow the process in the app.
