SpaceX Stock SPCX Slides After Starship Launch: What's Next?
SpaceX stock is stuck near its lowest price since going public, even after Starship's 13th test flight mostly went to plan.
SPCX shares closed at $115.07 on Friday, down 2.68%, then slipped further to $113.25 in the perpetual futures market. That is a long way from the stock's 52-week high of $225.64, set weeks after its June IPO.
The muted reaction shows how much pressure is building on $SPCX stock right now. Earnings and a huge share unlock are both just days away, and traders seem more focused on those than on Friday's rocket launch.
SpaceX Launches Starship Megarocket on 13th Test Flight
SpaceX launched Starship on its 13th test flight on Friday from Starbase, Texas. The rocket deployed 20 Starlink V3 satellites, the first real batch of next-generation satellites carried on a Starship mission.
The Super Heavy booster splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico. Not all of its engines lit for the landing burn, so it came in harder than planned. The upper Starship stage had its smoothest ocean landing yet, in the Indian Ocean.
SpaceX called the flight a success overall, with all major test goals met.
Why Is SpaceX Stock Price Falling Today?
Even with a mostly clean flight, SPCX barely moved. One trader summed up the mood on X, joking that the stock market can be strange sometimes, since a strong launch was not enough to send shares back toward record highs.
Crypto exchanges are also active in SPCX. Binance alone handled $849.24 million in SPCX perpetual futures volume over 24 hours, more than every other exchange combined.
Total liquidations hit $5.80 million in that period. Most of the pain, $5.36 million, hit traders who were betting the price would rise.

When Is SpaceX's Next Earnings Date?
SpaceX will report its first earnings as a public company on August 4, after markets close, with a webcast at 3:30 p.m. CT. It will be the company's first real look at Starlink and launch revenue since the June 12 IPO.
The date matters beyond the numbers too. It also opens the door for early insiders to start selling shares sooner than the usual wait.
What Is the SPCX Share Unlock and Why Does It Matter?
Two trading days after earnings, on August 6, insiders can sell up to 20% of their locked-up shares, roughly 911.5 million shares in total.
A further 10% could unlock too, but only if SPCX closes 30% above its IPO price on enough days before the report. That is a bar the stock is currently well under.
Short interest in SPCX stock has climbed above 30% of available shares, up from single digits just a month ago. That is a lot of bearish bets stacked up ahead of a very busy week.
SpaceX Stock Price Prediction: What the Charts Show
On the hourly chart, SPCX is still inside a falling channel that has been in place since late June.
Price is trying to hold the $111 to $115 zone, and RSI has bounced off oversold levels, hinting that selling pressure may be easing for now.
Levels to Watch
Price
Support
$111, then $105 and $100
Resistance
$120 to $126, then $135 to $142
Staying above $111 could open the door to a short-term bounce toward resistance. Losing that level could send SPCX toward $105, and possibly $100, before things turn around.
Until price closes back above the channel, the bigger trend still points down.
Could Tesla and SpaceX Really Merge?
ARK Invest's Cathie Wood said Tesla and SpaceX will "ultimately combine" into what she called the most powerful AI company around. She pointed to robotaxis, Optimus, and orbital data centers as pieces of the puzzle.
She also flagged SpaceX AI, the renamed xAI unit, as a frontier AI player worth watching on its own.
Elon Musk has not confirmed any merger, though he said overlap between the two companies keeps growing. He also said this week that Grok 4.6 is due in about two weeks, with Grok 4.7 to follow roughly a month out.
None of this changes SPCX's near-term chart, but it may explain why some investors are still willing to buy the dip.
