Stablecoin transfers to cryptocurrency exchanges have shifted toward net inflows, on-chain analyst CW reported on November 6. Despite this trend, there are still signs that the overall stablecoin market remains under pressure, as total capitalization continues to decline.

Exchange net inflows resume, but market remains neutral

CW, a cryptocurrency market analyst who regularly examines blockchain transaction data, highlighted that stablecoins are now “moving back toward net inflows” to exchanges. The recent observation aligns with a reversal in previous outflow trends, suggesting a potential rebuild in trading balances after a period of withdrawals.

However, CW described the current market environment as neutral and said there is no confirmed directional trend as of now. The analyst did not provide an aggregate figure for the inflows or specify the measurement window under review.

Stablecoin transfers into exchanges are shifting toward net inflows, but broader market conditions remain neutral and without a confirmed trend, according to on-chain analyst CW.

In these circumstances, traders and observers continue to monitor stablecoin flows closely, given the role of these tokens in supporting buying activity within digital asset markets.

Falling total supply contrasts with rebuilding exchange balances

On November 6, DefiLlama, a popular DeFi data aggregator, reported total stablecoin capitalization stood at about $291.6 billion. This figure reflects a 1.95% drop over the past seven days and a larger 4.55% decrease over the preceding 30 days, highlighting a persistent decline in circulating supply.

These shrinking supply figures contrast with signs of renewed net inflows onto trading venues, creating a complex picture for traders interpreting stablecoin data. Factors such as private wallet movements and transfers from decentralized finance platforms to exchanges can increase trading balances without increasing total issuance, as existing tokens are simply redistributed.

Tether’s USDT, which remains the largest stablecoin by circulation, accounted for approximately $177.5 billion, while USD Coin (USDC) was valued near $70.7 billion during this period. Both tokens showed net declines over 30 days.

DefiLlama aggregates stablecoin issuance across several networks, whereas CryptoQuant, best known for its on-chain analytics platform, refers specifically to ERC-20 stablecoins in its public dataset. Because different data providers may cover different sources and blockchains, comparisons between total market capitalization and exchange inflows are rarely direct.

Mini dictionary: DefiLlama is a data aggregator that tracks decentralized finance (DeFi) metrics including stablecoin supply, protocol value locked, and activity across various blockchains. It is widely used by analysts to gauge trends in DeFi ecosystems.

Exchange flows and reserves offer only part of the picture

CryptoQuant defines stablecoin netflow as the result of subtracting withdrawals from exchanges from the deposits to those exchanges. Positive net flows signal that more stablecoins are entering tracked exchange wallets than leaving.

Deposits to spot-market exchanges traditionally provide liquidity for purchases, but stablecoins transferred to derivatives platforms can also be used to post collateral or enter leveraged and short positions. As a result, net inflows do not necessarily indicate renewed cryptocurrency accumulation by traders. Available data does not disclose which exchanges are receiving the additional funds.

Although exchange deposits have increased, positive net stablecoin flows do not guarantee that market participants are shifting toward asset accumulation, as these inflows may serve multiple trading strategies.

A recent review by a CryptoQuant contributor known as Darkfost pointed out that Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, held $41.6 billion in ERC-20 stablecoins as of late October. That figure represented a $6.3 billion reduction since April, underlining ongoing liquidity contraction in exchange reserves. However, this data does not reflect the most current reserve totals.
