Saylor Signals Possible Return to Accumulation
Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), appeared to signal that the company could be ready to resume buying $BTC, posting the cryptic message "Bitcoin Drive engaged" ahead of the firm's customary Monday update. The post drew immediate attention from investors who have been watching closely for any sign that the company's buying program is about to restart.
Market participants traditionally interpret Saylor's resumed posts as a signal of a possible imminent announcement of a new purchase.Strategy has gone five weeks without a Bitcoin acquisition, with its last reported purchase covering the week of June 15 through June 21, when the company bought 520 BTC for approximately $35 million at an average price of $67,068 per coin.
Context Behind the Pause
The buying halt sits against a backdrop of financial pressure. Strategy launched a BTC Monetization Program in late June 2026, allowing it to sell Bitcoin to generate up to $1.25 billion in additional proceeds to fund its USD Reserve. The authorization was announced on June 29 as part of the company's capital-management framework, and it permits, but does not require, Bitcoin sales for stated purposes.
According to Strategy's second-quarter results filed with the SEC, the company currently holds 843,775 BTC, representing 25% growth year to date in 2026. The same filing shows Strategy has raised $17.06 billion through its at-the-market programs this year and paid out $1.06 billion in cumulative preferred stock dividends.
The pause has also been driven by pressure on the firm's STRC preferred stock. Strategy has been repurchasing STRC shares below par value while building its USD reserve, which stood at $3.75 billion as of late July. In its Q2 earnings commentary, CFO Andrew Kang said the company's plan is to "return STRC to health with stable demand, high liquidity, and low volatility trading near par."
Whether Saylor's latest post marks a genuine inflection point or simply routine social media activity remains to be seen. This pause follows Strategy's Bitcoin sale in late May 2026, with two further sales reported in late June and early July. With its USD reserve now substantially rebuilt, the conditions for fresh accumulation appear more favourable than they were a month ago. Markets will be watching Monday's disclosure closely.
