Live on stage at Sui Basecamp 2026 in Singapore, @SuiNetwork recorded 40,614,180 transactions per second, a figure independently verified by blockchain security firm @CertiK. The demonstration was led by Adeniyi Abiodun, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder at Mysten Labs. The number is not a projection or a testnet result. The test was conducted on the Summit Stage at Marina Bay Sands and was held alongside Token2049, using Sui tunnels with results settled on the Sui mainnet.
The result exceeded Sui's own 20 million TPS target and was more than six times its previous record of 6,086,766 TPS set on July 4. To put that in broader context, Visa processed 257.5 billion transactions in 2025, which works out to an average of roughly 8,165 every second across its entire global network.
The throughput figure did not come from base-layer on-chain writes alone. The engine behind the result is a feature Sui calls tunnels: programmable off-chain state channels built for high-throughput activity.Transactions were executed off-chain and then settled on the Sui blockchain to demonstrate the speed required for a scaling ecosystem of autonomous agents.Event participants and AI agents opened more than ten thousand tunnels across chat, games and payments, transacting gaslessly off-chain before each tunnel closed with a mutually co-signed settlement verifiable on Sui mainnet.
Sui is positioning the test as groundwork for what it calls agentic finance, the idea that AI and machine learning systems will carry out transactions in commerce autonomously, without a human approving each step.CertiK is independently analyzing the associated data, including proofs, execution logs, journals and supporting evidence, and will publish a full report in the coming days.
The milestone is technically remarkable. Whether the broader crypto industry currently generates the kind of agent-driven transaction volume that would stress-test this infrastructure in production is, for now, an open question. The record sets a ceiling that few thought possible. The floor, in terms of real demand, is still being built.
