Synopsys stock jumped about 10% after the chip-design software company unveiled new deals with OpenAI and Amazon while projecting stronger-than-expected growth for fiscal 2027.

At its 2026 Investor Day, Synopsys said it expects fiscal 2027 revenue to rise about 15% year over year to $11.15 billion at the midpoint, while non-GAAP operating margin is expected around 44%. The company also plans roughly $1 billion of share repurchases over the coming months.

The stronger outlook adds another layer to Synopsys’ AI story: the company is increasingly positioned not just as a supplier of chip-design tools, but as infrastructure for the custom silicon boom.

OpenAI Is Building GPT-Synopsys

The most unusual announcement was a new partnership with OpenAI.

Under the multi-year agreement, the companies will develop GPT-Synopsys, a specialized AI model trained to work with Synopsys electronic design automation tools.

The goal is to automate parts of semiconductor design that still require large amounts of engineering time, from circuit development to physical layout.

OpenAI will license Synopsys tools for model development, while the companies will share revenue once the product is deployed.

That gives Synopsys a direct role in the emerging market for AI agents that can help engineers design chips rather than simply assist with code.

Amazon Adds a $1B+ Custom Chip Deal

Synopsys also announced a multi-year agreement worth more than $1 billion with Amazon, expanding its role in AWS custom silicon.

The deal gives Amazon access to application-optimized Synopsys IP as it develops processors such as Trainium and Graviton, while the companies also plan deeper collaboration around AI-powered engineering.

That builds directly on Amazon’s expanding custom AI chip strategy, where AWS is trying to reduce reliance on outside processors and control more of the infrastructure stack.
