Digital asset infrastructure provider Taurus has integrated its tokenization and custody platforms with the blockchain-based ledger operated by Swift, expanding the capabilities for financial institutions engaged in distributed ledger technology.

Key integration details

Taurus announced on Wednesday that its clients can now connect their existing digital asset infrastructure directly to Swift’s ledger for seamless payments utilizing bank-issued tokenized deposits.

This connection allows Taurus clients to process digital asset transactions more efficiently, bypassing traditional manual processes. The firm indicated that initial client integrations would go live within days, and the first distributed ledger transactions on its platform are expected within weeks.

Swift introduced its blockchain-based ledger for tokenized deposits in July, preparing the ground for live transaction pilots among 17 participating banks across six continents. The system aims to provide a unified orchestration layer for cross-border payments using tokenized assets linked that reside on banks’ balance sheets.

First cross-border transactions

Standard Chartered and HSBC completed the first live blockchain-powered cross-border transaction using Swift’s ledger. The transaction successfully connected the banks’ separate tokenized deposit systems and demonstrated the interoperability of multiple platforms for high-value cross-border settlements.

The new infrastructure coordinates transfers between financial institutions ahead of final settlement, which continues to take place through established mechanisms, including real-time gross settlement systems.

Taurus representatives stated that this is a significant step toward modernizing the infrastructure of global payments by leveraging blockchain and tokenization to increase efficiency and transparency in cross-border settlement.

Taurus enables financial institutions to access real-time blockchain-based payments, integrating seamlessly with Swift’s ledger while processing tokenized deposits with enhanced security and reduced operational friction.

By implementing tokenized asset support, financial networks can streamline previously fragmented payment channels, minimize counterparty risk, and improve transaction traceability for regulatory compliance and audit purposes.

Web3 influence on traditional finance

While financial institutions continue to modernize infrastructure through blockchain solutions like Swift’s ledger, an equally notable shift is underway as traditional finance examines deeper integration with Web3 technologies. As major market participants explore new models, platforms such as 1stepSwap have enabled investors to directly hold shares of major U.S. companies, gold, and silver within crypto wallets, bypassing traditional brokers.

These platforms facilitate instant tokenization of real-world assets and use automated systems to secure optimal market pricing without the need for intermediaries, underscoring the growing preference for decentralized asset management and digital custody.

The combined momentum of institutional ledger integration and tokenization across Web3 platforms may set the stage for more convergence between digital and traditional assets, redefining both how assets are traded and stored on a global scale.
