In recent debates within the XRP community, concerns have surfaced about the potential impact of Ripple‘s new stablecoin, RLUSD, on XRP’s relevance. While some speculate that a stable, dollar-pegged option could overshadow the more volatile XRP in corporate and internal transactions, a deeper analysis suggests a different narrative.

RLUSD and XRP: Rivalry or Partnership?

Analyzing data from Dune Analytics, Evernorth, an independent XRP treasury, sheds light on this issue. Their research reveals that RLUSD is not overtaking XRP; rather, it serves as a complement within the XRPL network. According to Evernorth, both assets occupy distinct yet symbiotic roles.

“Rather than RLUSD and XRP excluding each other within the same sphere, we observe a clear division of labor: RLUSD offers stable, dollar-based settlement, while XRP continues to serve as a bridge for transfers between various assets.”

Initially, RLUSD’s presence on XRPL was minimal, with just 17 percent of its volume taking place there in April. This scenario has significantly altered, with 52 percent of RLUSD transactions now happening within the XRPL, highlighting a rapid migration towards this platform.

RLUSD’s share of activity on XRPL has grown significantly—from less than 1 percent to 12 percent in a short period. This trend suggests increased preference for stable, dollar-based exchanges around XRPL while maintaining XRP’s importance, rather than diminishing its market presence.

Synergy, Not Competition?

Evernorth analysts draw comparisons to the US dollar’s role in global finance. RLUSD acts as a stable core, while XRP facilitates swift transitions across assets, paralleling traditional currency systems. This pairing has generated $900 million in trades over six months, illustrating the establishment of a solid dollar market on XRPL.

RLUSD’s integration offers businesses a safeguard against foreign exchange risks, cementing XRP’s position as essential for cross-asset facilitation. Data supports a thriving demand for RLUSD that contributes to the liquidity and robustness of XRP.

The technical landscape also benefits XRP. Each RLUSD transaction requires a network fee, which is burned, thereby affecting XRP’s supply. This operational relationship ensures RLUSD propels new flow, bolstering XRP’s essential function within the network.

  • The rise of RLUSD transactions plays into XRPL’s evolving ecosystem.
  • XRP and RLUSD complement rather than replace each other.
  • The fees incurred support XRP vitality due to the burn mechanism.
  • Evernorth emphasizes strategic role assignments within Ripple’s structure.

This emerging model signifies a refinement of asset interaction within Ripple’s ecosystem, where RLUSD and XRP not only coexist but also enhance the network’s dynamism and reach. This partnership underscores a balanced architectural model, echoing traditional financial systems while wielding unique digital capabilities.
