In January, crypto researcher SMQKE (@SMQKEDQG) posted a series of documents pointing to a deepening relationship between Ripple and Standard Chartered. The post got attention at the time. On October 12, it got vindicated.

Standard Chartered launched institutional custody services for Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin on the XRP Ledger through its Dubai branch. The bank also announced plans to integrate RLUSD into LMAX Group’s trading infrastructure through a collateral mirroring model.

The Evidence SMQKE Highlighted

The documents shared in January showed a documented history between Standard Chartered and Ripple stretching back years.

One slide identified Standard Chartered as an advisor in Ripple’s governance network, alongside Bank of America, Santander, MUFG, Westpac, and RBC. The diagram showed layers including Governance, Rule Sets, Messaging, and Settlement Infrastructure. It placed the Ripple API at the top.

A second document described how Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Santander, UniCredit, Standard Chartered, Westpac, and Royal Bank of Canada became founding members of the Global Payments Steering Group. That group’s purpose was to develop rules and governance around the use of Ripple technology for global payments.

A third source listed Standard Chartered as a co-investor in Ripple alongside Google and Goldman Sachs. It also confirmed the bank was among more than 100 institutions working with Ripple in test mode.

A fourth excerpt quoted Ripple directly on the matter of scale. “To deploy something for Standard Chartered, Santander or Bank of America, our solution needs to scale to hundreds of thousands of transactions per second,” the company stated.

The relationship was never hidden. It was simply waiting for the right moment to produce results.

How the Pieces Connect

On October 12, Standard Chartered went live with institutional RLUSD custody through its DIFC branch in Dubai. The bank confirmed it is working with Ripple and LMAX Group on a collateral arrangement that keeps tokens in bank custody while LMAX verifies their value for trading.

Ripple’s existing $150 million commitment to LMAX established the foundation. Standard Chartered’s custody infrastructure now sits on top of it.

A Stronger Case for XRP

RLUSD operates on the XRP Ledger. Every institution that holds, custodies, or trades RLUSD increases activity on that network. Standard Chartered’s entry brings bank-grade infrastructure to that ecosystem. LMAX brings institutional trading volume. Together, they create a regulated pipeline that runs directly through Ripple’s technology.

As institutional adoption of RLUSD grows, demand for XRP Ledger capacity grows with it. That is a structural argument for XRP that does not rely on speculation.
