XRP’s Bollinger Bands have compressed to their narrowest levels since August. Analyst Ali Martinez (@ali_charts) flagged this development in a recent post, identifying two specific price levels that will determine which direction the asset moves next.
Bollinger Bands measure volatility. When the bands squeeze together, it signals that a significant price move is approaching. The squeeze itself does not confirm a direction, only that pressure is building.
Martinez noted that the last time the bands reached this level of compression, XRP rallied 71% in just three days. That historical reference gives context to the current setup, though past performance does not guarantee a repeat outcome.
The Two Levels That Define the Trade
Martinez set clear conditions for both a bullish and bearish scenario. A 4-hour candle close above $1.27 would signal a bullish move. A 4-hour candle close below $1.23 would signal a bearish move. The range between those two prices is what Martinez calls “the no-trade zone.”
The current price on the chart sits at $1.25, placing it directly in the middle of that zone. Until one of those levels breaks on a 4-hour close, Martinez advises against entering a position.
Why the Squeeze Carries Significance
The August comparison is worth noting. Bollinger Band squeezes at this level of compression are relatively uncommon on the 4-hour timeframe. The bands reaching a similar tightness twice in a few months suggests a recurring volatility pattern in XRP’s recent price structure.
Martinez did not predict a direction. He presented the squeeze as a condition that requires confirmation before acting. His analysis separates the technical signal from the trade decision, keeping the two distinct.
What the Chart Shows
The 4-hour chart shows a sharp drop in price around October 29. This decline affected the entire market, and was caused by the attack on Binance. What followed was a consolidation period near $1.25. The Bollinger Bands visibly tightened during this consolidation phase. XRP stayed compressed in a tight range as the bands narrowed.
The setup, as Martinez describes it, requires patience. A trader watching this chart would wait for a confirmed close outside the $1.23 to $1.27 range before committing to a position. The Bollinger Band squeeze signals opportunity, but the close confirms direction.
Martinez has not stated a personal bias toward either direction. His post lays out the conditions and lets the price action provide the answer. “A squeeze doesn’t predict direction,” he wrote, summarizing his approach to the setup.
