Crypto commentator Digital Asset Investor has released a video calling out Senate Majority Leader John Thune and expressing frustration over the delayed Senate vote on the CLARITY Act.
The bill, which would establish a regulatory framework for digital assets including XRP, now heads into September with its fate still uncertain.
Thune’s office confirmed that cloture will be filed on the motion to proceed to H.R.3633 before lawmakers’ August recess, and Thune followed through with the filing. The move secures floor time for the bill in September but falls short of the immediate vote supporters had pushed for.
Trump Pulls Support From Thune
The political fallout is escalating. Digital Asset Investor highlighted reports that President Trump declined to back Thune for another term as Senate Majority Leader. He had little sympathy for the embattled senator. “This guy ought to be ashamed of himself,” he said.
In a separate clip, Trump himself expressed strong disagreement with Thune on multiple issues, including the filibuster and the SAVE Act, stopping short of directly calling for his removal but making his frustration clear.
The Votes Still Are Not There
Senator Bernie Moreno recently confirmed that all 53 Republicans will vote for the bill. However, it needs 60 votes. Journalist Eleanor Terrett reported that negotiators must resolve two key disputes before September, but Moreno also debunked that report.
All Eyes are now on the Democrats, and reports suggest 7 to 10 of them have signaled support. Digital Asset Investor also highlighted a list of Democrats up for reelection who oppose the bill, including Ed Markey, Jon Ossoff, Cory Booker, and others. He urged XRP holders to contact them directly. He also named two Republican holdouts, Josh Hawley and Jerry Moran, but if Moreno is right, their votes are secure.
What a Failed Vote Could Mean
One analyst offered a counterintuitive take on a potential failure. If the CLARITY Act does not pass, crypto prices may absorb the hit better than U.S. crypto companies will. The real casualties could be long-term venture capital investors, who cannot build a decade-long investment case around shifting regulatory posture. Hedge funds and liquidity providers can price political volatility. Venture capital formation cannot.
XRP’s Position Remains Strong
Despite the legislative uncertainty, fundamentals continue to build. The value of tokenized real-world assets on the XRP Ledger has grown 389.9% since January to $4.4 billion. JP Morgan flagged XRP as a potential market share gainer.
Analysts from Black Swan Capital argued that XRP is positioned to absorb global settlement demand as the world shifts away from dollar-denominated rails into a digital, multipolar financial system.
