Crypto enthusiast Mason Versluis has explained why a video featuring Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has made him significantly more optimistic about XRP.

Garlinghouse addressed concerns about Ripple’s growing focus on its RLUSD stablecoin, reaffirming the company’s commitment to XRP while explaining how stablecoin activity is increasing liquidity on the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

Versluis expressed his reaction in a post on X, writing, “this video made me 5.89X more bullish on $XRP specifically.” His comments followed Garlinghouse’s explanation that Ripple intends to develop RLUSD in a way that supports XRP’s long-term role in the company’s ecosystem.

Garlinghouse Reaffirms Ripple’s Commitment to XRP

In the video, Garlinghouse acknowledged that Ripple’s announcements about RLUSD had received considerable attention. He explained that this focus might have unintentionally overshadowed what the company internally calls its “North Star.”

“We won’t do things, we only want to do things that are good for XRP,” Garlinghouse said.

He also explained that Ripple considers its RLUSD initiative consistent with this objective. His remarks directly addressed concerns among XRP holders who question whether the stablecoin’s growing adoption could reduce the importance of XRP.

Garlinghouse’s comments indicate that Ripple views the two assets as capable of serving complementary purposes. However, his statement does not guarantee that increased RLUSD adoption will translate into higher XRP prices.

RLUSD Activity Brings More Liquidity to the XRP Ledger

Garlinghouse also provided an update on RLUSD issuance across blockchain networks. He stated that approximately half of the stablecoin’s total supply was issued on the XRP Ledger at the time of his remarks.

“Now about half of all RLUSD is just issued on the XRP Ledger, bringing more liquidity on ledger,” the Ripple CEO explained.

Greater stablecoin liquidity can support trading, payments and other financial activities on a blockchain. RLUSD can facilitate dollar-denominated transactions, while XRP serves separate functions within the XRPL ecosystem, including transaction fees and value transfers.

The extent to which additional RLUSD activity benefits XRP depends on how users interact with the network and whether that activity generates sustained demand for the token.

Institutional Support Expands RLUSD’s Reach

RLUSD has also gained support from major financial institutions and cryptocurrency platforms. BNY Mellon has added RLUSD and XRP to its digital asset custody platform, giving eligible institutional clients additional options for safeguarding and transferring the assets.

Coinbase has introduced RLUSD support across multiple blockchain environments, expanding its accessibility to customers using its trading and institutional services.

These developments could expand institutional access to RLUSD and increase activity across supported networks.

XRP Holders Remain Divided Over the Benefits

Despite Versluis’s optimism, some XRP holders remain unconvinced that RLUSD adoption will benefit the token directly.

Hugh Damnright questioned the value XRP receives from transaction fees, noting that RLUSD has taken away part of the use case holders expected for XRP. Another commenter, Wex Gunworks, expressed frustration with XRP’s price performance, noting that its upward movements have often been short-lived.

The contrasting reactions reflect an important distinction: Ripple’s business expansion and the growth of RLUSD do not automatically translate into XRP price appreciation.

Versluis sees Garlinghouse’s remarks as a reason for greater optimism, but XRP’s long-term performance will also depend on demand, liquidity and the extent to which activity across the XRPL creates meaningful utility for the token.
