Trump Media & Technology Group, @cryptocom, and SPAC Yorkville Acquisition Corp. have mutually walked away from one of crypto's more high-profile corporate tie-ups. The three parties have terminated plans for Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, a vehicle that had been positioned as the first and largest publicly traded $CRO treasury company.

A Deal That Never Closed

The venture was announced in August 2025, when Yorkville Acquisition Corp., Trump Media, and Crypto.com entered a definitive agreement for a business combination to establish Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, Inc., a digital asset treasury company focused on acquiring $CRO, the native token of the Cronos ecosystem.Expected funding included $1 billion in CRO, $200 million in cash, $220 million in mandatory exercise warrants, and an additional $5 billion equity line of credit, a structure the founders said would make it the first and largest publicly traded CRO treasury company.

The termination unwinds all related agreements, including a services deal and planned digital asset products. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn, speaking to Axios, said the treasury sector had become saturated and denied that regulatory concerns drove the exit. The parties cited market conditions and shifting strategic priorities as the primary reasons for parting ways.

Truth Social's prediction market ambitions have also been scaled back. Rather than a deeper operational integration with @cryptocom, the arrangement has been reduced to a marketing deal promoting Crypto.com's products.

Trump Media Refocuses on Core Business

The unwind points to a broader pivot at Trump Media, which is refocusing on its media arm, data licensing, and a pending merger of its own. Trump Media announced a merger agreement with fusion power company TAE Technologies, valued at more than $6 billion, with the all-stock deal expected to close in mid-2026, resulting in shareholders of each firm owning approximately half of the combined company.Along with Truth Social and Truth+, Trump Media would become the holding company for TAE and its subsidiaries TAE Power Solutions and TAE Life Sciences.

The collapse of the $CRO treasury venture marks a notable reversal for a deal that attracted significant attention when announced, drawing scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest given Trump Media's ties to the White House. The deal with Crypto.com had been considered favorable for Trump Media, which has lost hundreds of millions of dollars since its 2021 launch, as the company put up little cash yet received a substantial ownership stake in the new treasury.
