Trump’s China Strategy Revives Buzz Around Standard Chartered’s $500K Bitcoin Forecast
CryptoCompass editorial visual for bitcoin coverage.

Key Points

  • Trump frames Bitcoin as vital to counter China’s financial influence.
  • Standard Chartered maintains long-term $500,000 Bitcoin target despite revisions.

At a White House event on July 6, President Donald Trump presented Bitcoin as a strategic asset, arguing that failing to lead in digital assets could advantage China.

His comments renewed focus on Standard Chartered’s long-term projection that Bitcoin could reach $500,000 within the current presidential term.

At the time of reporting in early July, BTC traded near $64,000, implying significant upside under that scenario.

Geopolitics and Digital Asset Policy

Trump described Bitcoin as powerful in terms of capital flows and positioned U.S. leadership in crypto as a national priority.

He framed the issue as a competition with China, stating that if the United States does not lead in digital assets, China would.

China has enforced strict bans on cryptocurrency trading and mining since 2021 while advancing its own central bank digital currency initiatives.

Analysts view Trump’s remarks as emphasizing regulatory philosophy and financial competitiveness rather than reflecting direct spot-market rivalry.

Policy adjustments since early 2025 have been described as supportive of digital assets, forming part of the backdrop for bullish institutional models.

At the same time, legislative uncertainty around crypto regulation continues to shape the broader market environment.

Standard Chartered’s $500,000 Outlook

Global Head of Digital Assets Research Geoffrey Kendrick first outlined a $500,000 forecast for Bitcoin in early 2025, initially targeting $200,000 within that year.

That annual target was not achieved, as Bitcoin reached an all-time high of $126,198 in October 2025.

Standard Chartered later revised its 2026 year-end estimate to $100,000 and shifted the $500,000 milestone further out, ultimately placing it around 2030 in subsequent research notes.

The adjustments were attributed to reduced corporate treasury participation and slower-than-expected inflows from exchange-traded funds.

Despite revisions, the bank has continued to identify sovereign wealth funds and pension funds as potential future drivers of demand.

Its broader digital asset strategy frames the Bitcoin projection as part of a wider institutional adoption thesis rather than a standalone price estimate.
