Uncharted and Fishing Frenzy will shut down after the team failed to find enough product-market-business fit for its crypto gaming thesis.

The game’s servers will close on June 25 at 2:00 a.m. UTC, ending live operations for one of Ronin’s onchain fishing titles. The team said it spent the past year testing multiple audiences and product directions, but the results did not create enough confidence in a viable path forward.

Fishing Frenzy had pushed deeper into Web3 gaming with Chapter 3, USDC-based packages, FISH token mechanics, Karma scoring and Proof of Distribution rewards. The shutdown now turns the project from a live game economy into a wind-down process built around refunds, liquidity-pool redistribution and partner reward handling.

FISH Becomes Spend-Only As USDC Packages End

USDC packages are no longer available inside the game, and FISH is now spend-only and untradable. That change effectively freezes the token’s trading role while keeping limited in-game spending functionality available before the servers go offline.

The shutdown schedule also includes a community redistribution plan. USDC from the FISH/USDC liquidity pool will be returned to community members and stakers based on Karma scores, with the snapshot taken on June 15.

All USDC spent since the Chapter 3 launch on May 14 will be refunded, excluding diving-related spending. Proof of Distribution rewards will be distributed directly by Sky Mavis to the Fishing Frenzy community, also proportional to Karma scores.

The Karma system now has an open snapshot for other teams and partners. The karma-scores-snapshot repository includes wallet addresses and Karma scores from June 15, giving external projects a way to identify and potentially reward Fishing Frenzy users after the shutdown.

Crypto Gaming Faces Another Fit Problem

Fishing Frenzy’s closure adds another reminder that crypto gaming still has to compete as gaming first and token economy second. Player-owned assets, reward points, liquidity pools and token incentives can create activity, but they do not automatically create retention, spending depth or sustainable game loops.

That pressure has followed the wider GameFi market since the play-to-earn boom cooled. Many early crypto games grew quickly when token rewards were strong, then struggled once emissions, asset prices or player attention weakened. The strongest surviving projects have moved toward better gameplay, simpler onboarding and optional ownership rather than reward-first design.

Fishing Frenzy’s shutdown is more orderly than a sudden disappearance. The team is keeping Discord available for questions, removing new USDC purchases, restricting FISH trading, publishing Karma data and setting out refund mechanics before server closure.

The result still marks a hard stop for Uncharted. The project tested multiple directions, but the economics and user demand did not support a long-term business. For Ronin and crypto gaming, the message is direct: blockchain rails can support ownership and rewards, but a live game still needs durable players, durable spending and a reason to return after incentives fade.
