Fee Surge Overwhelms X Money Integration
UsePaid, a Solana-based protocol that automatically routes memecoin creator fees to X accounts, has temporarily suspended payouts through X Money after a sharp spike in activity driven by Pumpfun token launches. The disruption emerged on September 28, 2026.
On September 27, claimed fees through the platform surged to $1.54 million, roughly 26 times what had been processed the day before, according to reporting from Crypto Briefing. The protocol was barely two weeks old at the time.
The model behind UsePaid is straightforward. Anyone can launch a token on Pumpfun, permanently redirect its creator fees to UsePaid, and designate virtually any X account as the beneficiary. Trading then generates creator fees, and UsePaid converts the beneficiary's share into dollars. Under the current arrangement, 80% of each claim belongs to the designated X recipient, while the remaining 20% is used to purchase the protocol's Solana-based $PAID token and burn it.
The self-reinforcing nature of the model helps explain the sudden surge: as more tokens launch and generate fees, more influencers discover they have unclaimed money waiting. Crypto influencer Tiffany Fong reportedly received over $6,000 through the protocol, while another X user received a $33,000 payment, according to The Currency Analytics.
Manual Claims Portal Launched as Interim Fix
The volume spike forced UsePaid to act quickly. The team first capped payouts at $750 per recipient per day before suspending X Money payments entirely. The protocol stated that existing balances remain safe and that fees will continue to accrue.
As an interim solution, UsePaid has launched an on-chain claims portal, allowing recipients to bypass X Money and withdraw directly to a Solana wallet. Cumulative payouts through UsePaid had already exceeded $1.4 million to various X accounts before the suspension. The protocol's native $PAID token fell 38% in the aftermath of the disruption, according to Crypto Briefing.
