Vibe coding means building software by describing what you want to an AI in plain language, instead of writing the code yourself. On the Internet Computer (ICP), the main tool for this is Caffeine, an AI platform from the DFINITY Foundation that turns written prompts into full web apps and deploys them on the blockchain. This glossary explains the terms you will meet along the way.
What Is Vibe Coding, And Where Does The Internet Computer Fit?
Tools such as GitHub Copilot and Cursor help developers write code faster. Replit and Lovable mix AI output with human editing, an approach often called vibe coding. Caffeine goes one step further. When it opened to the public on October 15, 2025, VentureBeat reported that a group of AI models writes, deploys and updates each app, and the user never touches the code.
At a July 2025 hackathon in San Francisco, a dentist used Caffeine to build Dental Tracks, an app that helps patients manage their dental records, without writing code.
Which Terms Should You Know?
The vocabulary falls into two groups: words for the AI builder, and words for the network underneath it.
AI App-Building Terms
Prompt: The plain-language instruction you type or speak to the AI.
Caffeine: DFINITY's AI platform that builds, deploys and updates web apps through conversation.
Self-writing internet: DFINITY's name for a web where apps are created and changed through natural language.
App Market: Caffeine's library where creators publish apps that others can clone and adapt.
Motoko: The programming language Caffeine's AI writes in. If an update would delete user data, the update fails and the AI tries again.
Instant and Guided builds: Caffeine V3's two modes. Instant builds at once; Guided asks clarifying questions first.
Internet Computer Terms
Canister: ICP's form of smart contract. It can serve web pages straight to a browser.
Cycles: The units that pay for computation. ICP tokens are converted into cycles and burned, which matters for ICP tokenomics.
Reverse gas model: The app owner pays for computation, so users pay no transaction fees.
Network Nervous System (NNS): The on-chain DAO that governs the network. Holders lock ICP in "neurons" to vote.
Chain-key cryptography: The signature system that lets a canister hold Bitcoin without a bridge or custodian.
What Has Launched Recently, And Who Is DFINITY Working With?
The newest activity around Caffeine involves a product rebuild and public institutions.
Caffeine V3: Reported live in April 2026, V3 rebuilt the platform so a team of specialist AI agents builds each app. Older projects migrate automatically.
UNDP: On August 25, 2026, the UN Development Programme and DFINITY announced a partnership. Pilots in UNDP country offices, civil society groups and governments will use DFINITY's Cloud Engines and Caffeine.
OpenSaaS: Two days later, DFINITY introduced OpenSaaS, a business software suite with no per-seat fees.
Pakistan: A memorandum of understanding signed February 10, 2026, with the Pakistan Digital Authority covers a dedicated Pakistan Subnet and 1,500 Caffeine licenses.
ICP traded at about $3.32 on CoinGecko on October 5, 2026, up 10% over seven days, with $63 million in 24-hour volume. Its market cap is roughly $1.83 billion.
Conclusion
Vibe coding on the Internet Computer comes down to a few parts. Caffeine turns prompts into Motoko code, canisters host the app, cycles pay for it, and the NNS governs the network. Today Caffeine builds and updates full web apps without the user editing code, while some functions, such as Stripe payments, still run off-chain.
