Tokenization is moving deeper into traditional finance as Janus Henderson launches a blockchain-based fund tracking the Nasdaq-100.

The new JQQQ fund is built using tokenization infrastructure from Centrifuge and will initially be available to eligible professional investors outside the United States through the Stellar blockchain.

The launch is another sign that Web3 infrastructure is increasingly being used for regulated investment products rather than only crypto-native assets.

Janus Brings the Nasdaq-100 Onchain

JQQQ is the first tokenized fund officially licensed to track the Nasdaq-100 Index.

The index includes 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq, including major technology groups such as Nvidia, Apple and Tesla.

The fund has a minimum investment of $100,000 and is initially targeted at professional investors outside the US.

Janus Henderson already manages more than $1 billion in blockchain-based funds across areas including US Treasuries, structured credit and equities.

The firm has also onboarded around 200 crypto wallets to its tokenized products.

Why Tokenized Funds Matter

Tokenized funds represent traditional investment products as blockchain-based digital assets.

The underlying economics can remain similar to conventional funds, but blockchain infrastructure can change how ownership is recorded, transferred and settled.

Potential benefits include:

  • faster settlement

  • programmable ownership

  • easier integration with digital wallets

  • access outside conventional market infrastructure

  • improved interoperability between financial products

For Web3, this is important because it moves blockchain technology closer to mainstream asset management.

Stellar Gains Another Institutional Use Case

JQQQ will operate on Stellar, adding another institutional product to the blockchain’s ecosystem.

Stellar has increasingly positioned itself around payments, asset issuance and tokenized financial products rather than speculative applications.

The network allows issuers to create and transfer digital representations of financial assets while maintaining controls required for regulated products.

The Janus launch therefore gives Stellar another example of blockchain infrastructure being used directly by a large traditional asset manager.

Traditional Asset Managers Are Moving Onchain

Janus is not alone.

Earlier this month, Franklin Templeton and Animoca Brands announced a partnership to expand access to tokenized real-world assets through NUVA, a blockchain-based vault marketplace.

NUVA already connects investors with assets issued on Provenance Blockchain, which had more than $30 billion in total value locked as of late September.

The partnership is designed to bring additional institutional-grade assets onto blockchain infrastructure.

Aviva Investors has also expanded its tokenization strategy, launching a tokenized share class of its £22 billion Sterling Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger.

Its tokenized products have already attracted more than £86 million, showing that institutional demand is beginning to move beyond pilot programs.

Interoperability Is Becoming Critical

One challenge remains: tokenized assets increasingly exist across many different blockchains.

That makes interoperability a major part of the next phase of Web3 adoption.

Chainlink launched CCIP 2.0 in September to allow institutions to distribute tokenized assets across multiple blockchains without rebuilding their infrastructure for each network.

Partners and supporters include AWS, ANZ Bank, Deutsche Börse Group's Crypto Finance, Fidelity International and Google Cloud.

This type of infrastructure could become increasingly important as tokenized funds, bonds and equities spread across different blockchain networks.

Web3 Is Moving Beyond Crypto-Native Assets

The broader trend is clear.

Web3 infrastructure is increasingly being used to represent assets that already exist in traditional finance.

Instead of creating entirely new digital assets, institutions are putting familiar products such as funds, equities and credit instruments onto blockchain rails.

That changes the Web3 investment narrative.

The focus is gradually shifting from speculative tokens toward infrastructure that can support regulated financial products.

What Comes Next?

The success of tokenized funds will depend on several factors:

Liquidity: Investors need efficient markets for buying and selling tokenized assets.

Regulation: Financial products still need to meet securities and investor-protection requirements.

Interoperability: Assets need to move across different networks and financial systems.

Institutional adoption: More banks and asset managers need to integrate blockchain infrastructure into existing operations.

JQQQ will not transform capital markets by itself.

But the fact that a major asset manager is putting a licensed Nasdaq-100 product directly onto blockchain infrastructure is another indication that tokenization is moving from experiments toward real financial products.

For Web3, that may prove far more important than the launch of another speculative token.
