Bitcoin recently climbed as high as $81,500 before dropping to about $79,000, marking a notable rise from the August 1st level of $62,229. In the same month, until the 28th, there was a net inflow of $3.3 billion into spot Bitcoin ETFs, showcasing a significant market interest.

Ongoing Whale Accumulation

On-chain data reveal that large investors, known as “whales,” continue their buying spree. During the past week, these substantial holders have reportedly amassed 39,154 BTC, translating to roughly $3 billion at current market prices. This accumulation highlights a stark contrast with smaller investors who are beginning to cash in on recent gains.

Notably, data indicate that smaller investor addresses, holding between 0.1 and 1 BTC, have shown a negative accumulation score of -0.982, underscoring their profit-taking behavior. In contrast, whales seem to maintain a stable or buying stance, unaffected by the rapid price uptick.

The collection of 39,154 BTC by large wallets in the past week suggests that despite short-term selling pressure, robust demand hasn’t vanished entirely from the market.

Santiment’s analytics suggest whale-held Bitcoin is nearing 5.22 million BTC. Known for its insights into crypto on-chain data and market behavior, Santiment’s findings align with previous data showing major holders increasing their positions during market recoveries.

Is $78,250 a Critical Short-term Level?

Yes, the current short-term technical landscape shows Bitcoin wedged between $77,300 and $78,300. Following $77,200 to $77,400 dip formation, higher lows and highs have appeared, suggesting a robust technical structure. Immediate resistance lies between $78,250 and $78,350, where a decisive breakout could pave the way to $79,000, $80,000, and even $81,000 levels. Conversely, falling below $77,200 may risk further decline toward $76,000 to $77,000, with a crucial support point at $75,700.

Moreover, in looking at indicators:

  • RSI is overextended at 72, breaching the significant 70 level.
  • Stochastic %K shows 82, implying potential reversal.
  • ADX is at 41, suggesting persistent trend but stretched price.

Trading indicators imply caution, as some suggest the recent rally might be losing steam. While the RSI breaches 72, signaling overbought conditions, other metrics like the MACD suggest continued buying, though momentum appears to wane.

The $78,300 region appears pivotal shortly; remaining below it may reinforce the possibility of an extended correction.

Meanwhile, a defensive outlook watches the $78,000 to $79,200 as a robust resistance band. A potential rejection here could see Bitcoin testing $75,500 and subsequently $72,800. Alternatively, sustaining levels above $80,500 in the four-hour frame could indicate renewed control by buyers, signaling possible further market strength.
