A pattern is around Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz, and Bird (@Bird_XRPL), a prominent analyst, wants traders to pay attention.
The analyst placed two of Schwartz’s posts alongside an XRP chart. The chart marked both moments with green boxes, letting the timing speak for itself.
The message above the chart read, “When David Schwartz last spoke about shorts.” The post invites a straightforward comparison. Schwartz made a similar joke in January, and XRP showed positive momentum after. Now he has made the same joke again.
Schwartz recently joked on X, writing, “My standard pickup line in college was, ‘I’m studying electrical engineering. Can I remove your shorts?’ It never worked.” The joke plays on the word “shorts,” which carries meaning in both electrical engineering and financial markets. The XRP community immediately connected it to short positions currently held against the asset.
The first version of the joke appeared in January. Schwartz had written to another user, “When I was in college, my go-to pickup line was, ‘I’m studying electrical engineering, may I remove your shorts?’” XRP surged sharply in the days that followed. The price climbed to over $2.40 and has not reached that level since.
Bird’s chart places a green box around that January candle. It then shows a second green box at the current price area, close to $1.47. The setup now resembles what preceded that January rally.
XRP’s Current Position
XRP is falling at the time of writing. The daily chart shows a close of $1.4729, down 2.89% on the day. The asset has declined significantly from its January highs despite recent bursts of momentum.
Schwartz’s comments mark a difficult time, and traders are watching to see whether history repeats. If it does, the move higher could be substantial given how far XRP is from its 2026 peak.
The XRP Army’s Reaction
Several traders responded to Bird’s post. One recalled predicting a strong week for XRP, expressing frustration that the price continued lower instead. Another read the situation as bullish, calling for a move to $3.2 within two weeks.
One commenter said shorts were talking loud but would close later, suggesting she expected a reversal. Another said the price had further to fall. The community remains divided. Bullish traders are watching the January chart closely. Others are skeptical that a joke can move a market twice.
