Litecoin is set to arrive on the Canton Network as cLTC, a tokenized version of LTC built for institutional use.
Greywick Digital signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Litecoin Foundation on October 1, 2026, and the foundation has endorsed the plan. cLTC is not live yet. The target is the end of 2026, but no exact launch date has been set.
What Is cLTC?
cLTC works like a wrapped token: real LTC is locked in reserve, and a matching token circulates on Canton.
Greywick Digital issues the token and has an independent third party confirm the backing exists. That check is called an attestation. Greywick says cLTC reserves will be disclosed publicly, with continuous independent attestation.
Under the MoU, the Litecoin Foundation will support Greywick's cLTC as the version of Litecoin on Canton for:
- Institutional trading
- Yield-bearing products
- Other institutional-grade vehicles on the network
An MoU is a formal statement of intent. It sets the plan but does not mean cLTC exists on mainnet.
Who Are The Parties Behind cLTC?
Three organizations are involved, each with a different role.
Greywick Digital
Greywick describes itself as asset agnostic, meaning it can bring different established assets onto Canton. cLTC is its first issuance.
The Litecoin Foundation
The Litecoin Foundation is a non-profit registered in Singapore, with a related 501(c)(3) entity in the United States. It funds core engineering work and backs projects building on Litecoin.
Canton Network
Canton is a public blockchain built for institutional finance. Its governance is facilitated by the independent Canton Foundation, and its native token is Canton Coin (CC). Canton offers programmable privacy, so participants see only the transaction data relevant to them. Its participants include DTCC, Goldman Sachs, and BNP Paribas.
Why Does Canton Matter For Litecoin?
Canton gives LTC a route into regulated finance that it has not had before.
Because Litecoin is fully decentralized, it has never had a direct presence on the networks where regulated institutions settle trades. cLTC is meant to fill that gap.
David Schwartz, Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Litecoin Foundation, said institutions prefer environments they already know. He added that cLTC is a good way to reach institutions that may not use other routes to access Litecoin.
What Does Litecoin Bring To Canton?
Litecoin launched in 2011 as a fork of Bitcoin, making it one of the oldest active blockchains. Supporters often call it "digital silver," a lighter counterpart to Bitcoin's "digital gold."
- Transactions: over 417 million processed since 2011, with 100% uptime cited by the foundation
- Supply: more than 77 million LTC in circulation, out of a hard cap of 84 million
- Market access: a spot ETF on Nasdaq, plus publicly traded digital asset treasuries in the US and Canada
Greywick's press release also says US regulators treat LTC as a commodity and that it is MiCA compliant in the EU.
When Will cLTC Launch?
Greywick will launch cLTC once it publishes three things:
- Reserve addresses: the wallets holding the backing LTC
- Attestation format: how independent reserve checks will be reported
- Launch sequence: the steps for going live
Work is under way on a live testnet, a trial version of the network. The mainnet target is before the end of Q4 2026.
How Is cLTC Different From cbLTC?
cLTC is not the only tokenized Litecoin. On September 25, Coinbase launched cbLTC on Solana. It is backed 1:1 by LTC in Coinbase custody, with cross-chain transfers secured by Chainlink's CCIP. cbLTC serves DeFi users on Solana, while cLTC targets regulated institutions on Canton.
Conclusion
cLTC is a planned, reserve-backed form of Litecoin on Canton, with public reserve addresses and independent attestations. The Litecoin Foundation has endorsed Greywick Digital as its issuer for institutional trading and yield products. Launch depends on testnet validation and published reserve disclosures, with an end-2026 target.
