A High-Stakes Gathering in Washington
US President Donald Trump is expected to host a major crypto industry summit at the White House on Aug. 19. Trump is expected to attend a meeting at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building with chief executives from Coinbase, Ripple, Gemini, Robinhood, Polymarket and Kalshi.Executives from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Chainlink, Paradigm and the Digital Chamber are also expected, while an Eleanor Terrett dispatch adds the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq to the invite list alongside Kraken.
On the regulatory side, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and CFTC Chairman Mike Selig are expected to join as well.Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick are also slated to appear.
The gathering functions as a small-group precursor to the CFTC's first Innovation Advisory Committee meeting the next day. That 35-person panel convenes for an opening session titled "Crypto's Regulatory Evolution: From Uncertainty to Clarity," with CFTC Chairman Mike Selig running point on the agenda.
CLARITY Act Faces Fading Odds
The meeting arrives at a difficult moment for the industry's top legislative priority. Polymarket traders assigned the CLARITY Act a roughly 19% probability of being signed into law in 2026, down from a peak of 82% on Feb. 19.Even that diminished market-implied probability is nearly twice Galaxy Digital's 10% estimate for passage this year.
The bill would place digital commodity spot markets under the CFTC while leaving assets classified as securities within the SEC's jurisdiction. The House passed its version by a 294-134 vote in July 2025, with 78 Democrats supporting the measure, and the Senate Banking Committee later advanced its version 15-9 in May 2026, but the proposal has not received a floor vote.Senate Majority Leader John Thune said before the recess that lawmakers did not have enough time to complete debate and amendments.
Although the Aug. 19 meeting is unlikely to resolve the issues and the Senate's vote-counting problem by itself, it is still expected to be a meaningful step after talks stalled, even as the odds of bill approval this year continue to decline.Bringing the White House and all parties together less than a month before the September 15 Senate vote makes the timing difficult to ignore.
