Two altcoins are moving higher today, and the reasons behind each rally look quite different from one another.
One project has a major network upgrade arriving within hours, and the other just closed a governance vote that changes how many tokens will exist in the future. Both stories deserve a closer look, so let’s start with Zcash.
Zcash (ZEC) Price Climbs 14% as the NU7 Network Upgrade Gets Closer
Zcash (ZEC) price is up by around 14% in the past 24 hours, and the NU7 network upgrade appears to be at the center of the move. Mainnet activation is set for November 5 under ZIP 218. The upgrade brings a few changes worth knowing:
- Target block time drops from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, which speeds up confirmations and makes ZEC more usable for point of sale payments and exchange deposits.
- A new Network Sustainability Mechanism directs 60% of transaction fees to a long term network security reserve.
- The 21 million coin supply cap stays unchanged after the upgrade.
PayFi and Privacy Coins Hold Up as Other Crypto Sectors Pull Back
Market conditions also played a part in the ZEC price move. Most major sectors, including GameFi, AI, and DeFi, pulled back today, but PayFi and privacy coins like ZEC and Monero posted net daily gains. That split matters because Zcash climbed on a day when much of the altcoin market moved lower.
The rally also follows strong October momentum for the coin. Endorsements from figures such as Arthur Hayes and Naval Ravikant came earlier, and a multi week short squeeze driven by perpetual futures liquidations added more pressure on bears.

Analysts Debate Whether Zcash Is an Upgrade Play or a Bull Trap
Crypto analyst Yagacalls described ZEC as moving again as the NU7 upgrade gets closer, and noted that volume is supporting the move for now. A clean hold above the recent range highs would keep the next leg open. Yagacalls also said a rejection from this area would simply offer a better entry point.
Another analyst account, BFB, pointed out how volatile the past two days have been. ZEC dropped 13% yesterday and then rebounded 12% today, which put the Zcash price near $1,283 as the upgrade date approaches. BFB asked whether this is an upgrade pump or a bull trap. That question captures the main debate around ZEC right now.
NEAR Protocol (NEAR) Price Rises 6% After the HSP-029 Governance Vote
NEAR Protocol (NEAR) price is up around 6% today, and governance proposal HSP-029 is the first reason behind it. The NEAR community approved the proposal on November 2 and 3 with 99.9% support. It cuts the maximum annual token issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over the next 24 months, which equals a 36% reduction.
The NEAR price first dropped about 9% when the proposal was finalized, as traders weighed lower staking yields. Market sentiment has since reversed after that early drop. Buyers now focus on the long term effect, because the lower ceiling limits dilution for holders. BSCN shared more details on the proposal:
- The issuance ceiling falls a little each month across the 24 month period.
- The change could prevent 66.1 million NEAR from being issued over six years.
- Token supply would end up approximately 4.36% smaller than under the current ceiling.
- The existing 90/10 split between staking participants and the protocol treasury stays in place.
- A Security Council review and a protocol upgrade are still required before implementation.
Bitcoin Rebound After the US Midterms Lifts NEAR and Other Altcoins
The wider market gave NEAR a second push today. Political uncertainty has eased now that the US midterm elections are concluded.
Bitcoin bounced from below $76,000 to above $78,300 and pulled higher risk altcoins like NEAR upward with it. Short liquidations added fuel by forcing bears to buy back their positions.
Pump Fun Listing and NEAR Intents Revenue Add Context to the NEAR Rally
Altcoin Buzz noted that NEAR just landed on Pump fun shortly after the community voted to cut annual issuance by 36%. The account said the combination brings more trading access and less future dilution for NEAR once the cut is implemented.
Ecosystem data adds more context. BSCN reported that NEAR Intents generated its biggest revenue month ever in October, with $3.9 billion in 30 day volume and $2.4 million in revenue. Other figures from the report include:
- All time trading volume has now exceeded $37 billion.
- The platform has completed 37 million swaps.
- More than 520,000 unique users joined activity over the past 30 days.
- The ecosystem now supports 36 blockchain networks.

What Could Happen Next for ZEC and NEAR Prices Over the Coming Days
Two scenarios stand out for Zcash. Buyers could hold ZEC above the recent range highs after the November 5 activation, which would keep the next leg open as Yagacalls described. A rejection from this area would bring the earlier range back into focus, and BFB’s bull trap question would gain more attention.
The NEAR price depends on two things. Bitcoin needs to hold above $78,300 for the broader rebound to continue. The Security Council review and protocol upgrade also need to move forward before the lower issuance ceiling takes effect.
